When Sony picked up the Little House on the Prairie movie project back in 2012, it had Scott Rudin attached as a producer with David Gordon Green in talks to come on board as director. Gordon Green then left the director's chair vacant, which was filled by Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene) in late 2014 just before the picture went into turnaround. Durkin is still attached to direct the adaptation of the Laura Ingalls Wilder book series, scripted by screenwriter Abi Morgan (Shame), but it's now set up under a new production studio.

As THR reports, Paramount will now be developing the Little House on the Prairie picture. There are no other details available as of this writing, even so far as to say whether the movie will skew closer to Ingalls Wilder's children's novels or the 1970s TV series by the same name. The Golden Globe-nominated show starred the late Michael Landon as the patriarch Charles Ingalls with Melissa Gilbert starring as his daughter Laura Ingalls. The episodes tended to diverge from the stories based on Ingalls Wilder's childhood in the northern American Midwest during the 1870s and 1880s. It will be interesting to see if the feature film sticks to the books, opts to emulate the TV show, or goes in a new direction entirely.
