It's kind of insane that Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez's award-winning graphic novel series Locke & Key has yet to find a home for its adaptation on the big or small screens. More insane still is that the combined talents of names like Carlton CuseScott DerricksonLindsey Springer and Andres Muschietti (It) haven't been able to give the project much momentum. The latest stopping block for Locke & Key appears to be Hulu, the streaming content platform that ordered a pilot just about a year ago. If new reports have it right, Hulu has passed on the series.

The news comes courtesy of actor Samantha Mathis (You Can Choose Your Family) who remarked that Hulu passed on the pilot during a recent chat with Cultured Vultures; hat tip to Screenrant. The bad news is, obviously, that Hulu passed on it, but the good news is that the pilot can still be picked up elsewhere since it's currently being shopped to the likes of Amazon, Netflix, and Apple. There are plenty of opportunities for platforms out there to pick this project up, so fingers crossed that it finds a home!

Here's what Mathis had to say:

I just finished that a couple weeks ago. I did a pilot for Hulu called Locke and Key but it didn’t get picked up by Hulu. It’s getting shopped around to Amazon and Netflix and Apple and everyone right now. Who knows, maybe that will end up some place.

Is that a Marvel series or am I thinking of something else?

Samantha Mathis:It’s not. It’s Joe Hill, Stephen King’s son. A series of graphic of novels that are very popular dealing with a haunted house. Very popular. We’ll see what happens.
