Yesterday, 20th Century Fox held a footage presentation for some of its major 2017 releases. We’ve already shared with you what we thought of the footage from War for the Planet of the Apes, but full written reactions for some of the other films are under embargo for the time being. That embargo, however, does not extend to social media, so with that in mind we’ve rounded up some of the reactions to those that got to see the first 40 minutes of Logan.
The film is, of course, Hugh Jackman’s final go-around as the Wolverine character, and it’s been shrouded in secrecy throughout production. We only learned the title when the incredible first trailer debuted, which itself teased a desolate, post-apocalyptic setting, a weary Wolverine, and lots of R-rated violence. Indeed, hot on the heels of the success of Deadpool, Fox is sending Logan out into the world as an R-rated superhero movie, and reactions to yesterday’s footage confirm that director James Mangold took full advantage of the rating.
Overall, the reactions from those that saw the film's first act were positive. Most seem to agree that the young Dafne Keen who plays Laura (aka probably X-23) stole the show, with strong notices for the performer. There was also plenty of talk about the R-rating, as it sounds like the first 40 minutes of the film at least are incredibly violent.
So peruse some of the reactions below, and look for our full writeup of the event on Collider soon. Logan also stars Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, and Richard E. Grant. The film opens in theaters on March 3, 2017.
