First up is the announcement that Marshall Green will play the famed playwright, Tennessee Williams, opposite Jena Malone’s (Contact) McCullers, the novelist behind “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter.” Williams was McCuller’s best friend and longtime confidant and described Carson’s major theme in her writing as “the huge importance and nearly insoluble problems of human love.” Written by Deborah Kampmeier (Hounddog) and Sarah Schulman (Mommy Is Coming), Lonely Hunter is slated to shoot later this year as additional casting is underway. Director Kampmeier said of Logan’s addition to the cast:
“Logan is amazing for Tennessee Williams. People think of him as a leading man but I think he’s also a character actor in a leading man’s body. He is so talented and with his theater background and training he is perfect for the role. With such great work coming up for him we are happy he can do this.”
Marshall Green can also be seen in the upcoming sci-fi epic, Prometheus. Here’s the synopsis for Lonely Hunter:
“Lonely Hunter” is the true story of novelist and playwright Carson McCullers, a woman who overcame tremendous odds to become one of the most influential writers of her time. Plagued by crippling illness and torrid marriages, her imagination provided a sanctuary that she shared with us all. ‘Lonely Hunter’ will span 35 years in McCullers’ life and feature notable figures including her best friend Tennessee Williams, her protégé Truman Capote, and her roommate Gypsy Rose Lee.
Next, from Variety comes the news that Gershon and Stormare will replace Handler and Bogosian in Mall, the directorial debut of Linkin Park bandmember, Joe Hahn. Although Bogosian wrote the 2001 novel off of which the film is based, their schedules simply did not work out as Mall is already shooting. The novel’s plot follows the crossed paths of five strangers who are caught up in a mall shooting spree perpetrated by a drug-addicted lunatic. James Frecheville (Animal Kingdom) will play the shooter while Gershon is set to play a sex-crazed housewife who attracts the attention of a voyeuristic businessman (Vincent D’Onofrio). Mimi Rogers (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery) stars as the shooter’s mother, while Stormare will play his former boss. Mall also stars Cameron Monaghan (Click) and India Menuez as a teen stoner and the object of his affection, respectively. Gbenga Akinnagbe (The Savages) will play a mall security guard who must stop the shooter.
