20th Century Fox has released the first Logan trailer. The film is inspired by Mark Millar’s Old Man Logan comic, and sees Hugh Jackman reprise his career-making role as Logan a.k.a Wolverine one last time. Details on the plot are still scarce, but we know that Boyd Holbrook plays the villainous leader of The Reavers, while previous images teased a desolate, Western setting, and a cryptic message that seems to reflect the current state of mutant affairs: “Where are all the mutants?”

One thing's for certain from this debut trailer: the R-rated Logan is going to be the bleakest X-Men movie yet. The trailer is accompanied by Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" to incredibly emotional results, as the film reveals a world in which mutants are nearly extinct, Professor X is very sickly, and Logan is no longer healing. Key to the story appears to be a young girl who is "very much like" Logan, so one has to wonder if the film is introducing a young X-23 (i.e. Wolverine's successor). Regardless, this is an incredibly effective trailer, with evocative visuals and a hardened, rough veneer, and I can't wait to see how Jackman closes out his time with this iconic character.

Check out the Logan trailer below. The film also stars Patrick Stewart (reprising his role of Professor Charles Xavier), Stephen Merchant, Richard E. GrantElizabeth Rodriguez, and Dafne Keen. Logan opens March 3, 2017.

And here's the U.K. version, which has a couple of extra NSFW shots.
