Wolverine is on the prowl. A new black-and-white image from Logan, the R-rated sequel to The Wolverine, sees Hugh Jackman as the titular mutant, basking in the moonlight as his bloodied form stands over his prey in front of a mysterious house. As we try to piece together where this moment fits into the larger scheme of the film, we turn back to the first trailer.

The film’s official Weapon X Instagram account first published the image with the caption “Silence.” Though it’s still unclear where this house is exactly, Logan’s attire is similar to a scene early on in the trailer, which sees him shambling through a forest with moonlight piercing through the trees. There’s also a body at his feet in the image, likely one of the armored Reavers, led by Boyd Holbrook’s Donald Pierce.

The trailer offers a few snippets of Logan peering out a window and washing his hands in a bathroom sink. Perhaps both of these moments are from this house. See the image below.

Directed by James Mangold, Logan also stars Patrick Stewart as the returning Professor Charles Xavier and the young Dafne Keen as Laura Kinney (a.k.a X-23). I’m not entirely convinced Xavier is actually alive in this story or if he’s a haunting memory, like Jean Grey was in The Wolverine. However, we see Logan protecting Laura, who’s being hunted by The Reavers in a time when mutants have nearly reached extinction. Maybe the scene above is an attempt to protect his young cub. Stephen Merchant portrays the albino mutant Caliban, while the film also features Richard E. Grant as a mad scientist-type character. Logan, which marks Jackman’s last time playing the adamantium-clawed mutant, will hit theaters on March 3, 2017. See more images from Instagram below.
