With a little over a month away until the release of Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger, Disney has a released a new trailer.  The story focuses on John Reid (Armie Hammer) surviving an attack, being saved by Native American warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp), and the two teaming up to fight injustice.  The new trailer speeds through the premise to get to the set pieces, and while I want to be excited for this movie, I just keep seeing Wild Wild West.  There’s hardly any of the humor that made Verbinski’s Pirates of the Caribbean movies so enjoyable, or the strangeness that brought Rango to life.  Then again, if Disney wants to leave the best stuff out of the trailer, that’s fine by me.  I’d like to be surprised.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Tom Wilkinson, William Fichtner, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, Ruth Wilson, and Helena Bonham CarterThe Lone Ranger opens July 3rd.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Lone Ranger:

From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “The Lone Ranger,” a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice–taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

It’s not going to flop. Its got the director from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies who directed it. The movie producer of this movie is one of the biggest movie producers around, meaning Jerry Bruckheimer. Its got Johnny Depp who starred in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, playing the role of Tonto. Its also got a new up and coming actor who’s playing the Lone Ranger “John Reid”, that is played by Armie Hammer. It will be a great movie and will be successful in the box office. So @GrafOrlok , that count down that you have created is inaccurate.

it will most definitely flop. its been tracking terribly, which is why disney had to release a FOURTH trailer for it, even after they called the last one the final one

@twitter-21615780:disqus Just because its been tracking terribly, doesn’t mean its going to flop. That’s also not the reason why they released a fourth trailer. They are just advertising the movie, to get it to be a success in the box office. The third trailer wasn’t the final trailer, it was the main trailer for the movie.

@disqus_OSjNFnGxj3:disqus No, This won’t be the flop of the summer, which i can assure you that! Its got alot of great things going for it, that will indeed help it be a success in the box office. Its got the up and coming actor Armie Hammer who’s playing The Lone Ranger ‘John Reid’. Its got Johnny Depp who’s playing Tonto. Its got Jerry Bruckheimer who that is the producer of it, that is also the producer of the very successful Pirates of the Caribbean movies. It also got director Gore Verbinski directing it, who that was the director of the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Something tells me Its going to do just fine in the box office, and will be a great movie.

It’s a $200 million Western. The odds are already stacked against it. It does look beautiful, though.

      • Sean

@facebook-1418007646:disqus Odds are not stacked against it. At one time it had a $250-275 million dollar production budget, but it was lowered to a $215 million dollar production budget.

One little thing they can do that will improve the chances is dump the goofy sight gags- like the horse in the tree ( from the earlier trailers) where Johnny Depp remarks that ‘that’s one crazy horse’ or whatever…. plus it isn’t realistic to have the horse running along the top of the train with the Lone Ranger on his back– sure it may look cool but in the long history of westerns…did any other western ( ever?) show a rider galloping his horse along the top of a train? I kinda doubt a horse would go along with that particular stunt

The positive for the film is that the cinematography looks stunning. Truly Oscar worthy “look” to the film and yet it seems to have way too many sight gags thrown in there JUST BECAUSE someone in a meeting thought they would look cool.

Another gag is where they are on the top of the train and catch a rope or wire and leap off the train just before it derails. Okay, fine. I buy that. But then after THAT gag they are sitting in the wreck of the train and a huge steel chunk comes flying at them and plunges into the dirt between them and they exchange a glance at each other as if to say…”wow- that was close”

Like I said…. the core of the story looks great and the film has a solid gritty look and feel to it. You still have a week or two….. get in there on a few all nighters in the editing bay and chop out fifteen minutes of the sight gags. Stay true to the icon and maybe we can have a nice trilogy. As it stands now from the seven ( ahem) trailers I have seen…. it’ll be lucky to open with 50 mill. But that’s just my opinion. Good luck!

All those little funny things you’re mentioning of that will be in the movie, are just little bits of comic relief. That is all that is. The Pirates of the Caribbean movies had them too. And did that ruin those movies ? Nope!

You just keep seeing Wild Wild West? I’m sorry, I missed the part in the preview where a man without the lower half of his body threatens to rape a girl with a robot dick. Just because it is a big budget western doesn’t mean it looks like that pile of crap.
