New International Trailer for LOOPER

     June 27, 2012

While the new domestic trailer for Looper will go online tomorrow, the new international version has gone online today.  I’m not sure how different the two trailers will be, but I like what I’m seeing.  For those unfamiliar with the film, it takes place in a world where time travel exists, but is only used on the black market. When the mob wants to kill someone, they send the target 30 years into the past where a contract killer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) does the dirty work. Things are going smoothly until Gordon-Levitt’s future self (Bruce Willis) is sent into the past to be killed.  This new trailer introduces a violent character we haven’t seen before known as the “Rainmaker”, who’s played by the brilliant Garret Dillahunt (Deadwood).  Writer-director Rian Johnson looks like he’s cooked up an intense sci-fi action flick, and the movie remains one of my most-anticipated of the year.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  The film also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff DanielsLooper opens September 28th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Looper:

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce.

Easily my most anticipated and much better than the first trailer I thought – Dark Knight who?

  • AnaB

    So good! Can’t wait!

  • Sugreev2001

This looks better than the first trailer.Real happy to see Jeff Daniels in a big movie, been too long. The guy is too talented to only be in TV and indie films.

  • BeanBag

    The reign maker? really?

    • Andrew

      The “rainmaker”. And yes, really.

  • henrieta

“as the “Rainmaker”, who’s played by the brilliant Garret Dillahunt (Deadwood)”
ha ha.thats what you think, but its someone entirely different

  • Dsimolke

I’ve seen a couple of other sites suggest that Jeff Daniels is this “Rainmaker” character. Are you sure Garret Dillahunt is playing him, or did you just infer it was him since the first image of Dillahunt, as well as the first mention of the “Rainmaker”, appear in this trailer. Just curious.

This could easily become JGL’s “Driving Miss Daisy” for the 21st century

    • Casey

      What does that even mean?

Ok, I just got a bit mind f**ked?! I was thinking, surely he(JGL) doesn’t kill himself, if he’s in the future, but then I got all Inception’d and gave up.

  • paul tracy

JGL is clearly the rain maker or the reign maker or whatever; the boss in the future.

“he’s going to take everything you got,” Bruce says. “And what you’ve got.”

Emily Blunt with a shotgun? I’m in.
Seriously though – this looks like it could be the sleeper hit of the year!

  • Thea

I love what they have done with the makeup of JGL — very subtle but definitely very distinctively Bruce Willis-esque

  • jetblac

    Rainmaker, count me in.
