I’m annoyed with teasers for trailers, but with Looper I’ll make an exception. Rian Johnson‘s sci-fi film is one of my most-anticipated of the year, and this tease only makes me more amped for the picture. For those unfamiliar with the flick, the futuristic thriller takes place in a world where time travel exists, but is only used on the black market. When the mob wants to kill someone, they send the target 30 years into the past where a contract killer (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) does the dirty work. Things are going smoothly until Gordon-Levitt’s future self (Bruce Willis) is sent into the past to be killed. I’ve been a little skeptical of the make-up job to make Gordon-Levitt look like Willis, but the tease puts my fears to rest because it works when you see it in motion.
Hit the jump to check out the teaser, and if you missed it on Friday, click here to check out the poster. The full trailer will be online in three day. Looper opens September 28th and co-stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Noah Segan, Piper Perabo, and Jeff Daniels. [Update: We've updated the article with two more teasers that offer more new footage.]

Here’s the official synopsis for Looper:
In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce.

looks terrible. gordon-levitt looks creepy as a young willis
what? i think it looks AWESOME. i loved brick, liked brothers bloom, so im very very excited for this.
The synopsis sounds too much like inception, with time travel instead of dreams. The makeup on Gordon-Levitt is so subtle and it gives off a creepy vibe I think. You’re right I shouldn’t say it looks terrible, it’s not even a real teaser.
How does a dream extractor looking to decentralize a corporation from within the company head’s own subconscious sound in any way like a mob assassin hired to kill his own future self to preserve his present?
agree to disagree. still getting an inception vibe from it
I’m assuming you haven’t seen Rian’s other films: Brick and Brothers Bloom. He’s a solid director.
Yeah, it does look terrible. I could tell the movie is going to suck because of the .00001 seconds of shots from a teaser of a teaser trailer. Pull your head out of your ass.
I was going to say don’t feed the troll then I realized I thought the film looked great from “.00001 seconds of shots from a teaser of a teaser trailer”
Chill dude, why u getting so worked up. See my post above for my reasons. What’s wrong with saying the “0.0001″ seconds I saw was terrible???? What else am I supposed to base my early opinion on?
Who says you HAVE to have an early opinion? If you HAVE to, maybe base it on talent of the actors/crew/director.
I also re-read the synopsis like 10 times, no where in it does it give ANY semblance of being like Inception. Unless you count the fact that it’s an action movie with Joseph Gordon-Levitt. If that’s the case, then G.I. Joe sounds a lot like Inception to me, as well.
I think it’s so strange that you’re insisting that the film is highly derivative of Inception. really? That’s so weird.
I think having an opinion on something should include basing on some sort of compelling argument, not 20 seconds of footage.
Looks Great !!!!
Finally, an original film that looks smart and fun. Why is it so hard to get more pictures like this these days? I like the visual look of the film from the few shots here. It looks modern but warm for a futuristic film, not techno cold or like it’s shot in the desert with parts from a junkyard. I thought it was going to look like a small indie film trying to be sci-fi but this looks likes it’s successfully built its own world.
I hope it’s good. We need more original filmmakers like Rian Johnson working regularly in Remake Land.
Are you prophetic, Dave? As far as I could see, there’s only about 20 seconds of material in this teaser — not to mention the story’s exactly the opposite of what you called it (“original”). It seems to me that you, Dave, are autistic, not prophetic.
I just thought the few shots looked good in the way I described. Also, the plot summary makes it sound interesting and original at the very least. And yes if you thought I jumped the gun I addressed that in my reply to Kevin.
Still, I can only reply to the few shots we have here and that is what I’ve chosen to do. I think it’s a promising start.
I’m getting so sick of teasers for teasers. Just put the frickin trailer out. What does this do that a normal trailer won’t do? Inform us the Bruce Willis would kick JGL ass? No u don’t say! Or that the people that made the movie like the movie? No u don’t say! Put it out and let us be the judge.
Neat premise, good cast. That said, these teasers or commercials for a trailer are too much. The trailers are supposed to give the movie hype. The trailers do not need their own hype. First Total Recall, not this? Stop it, Hollywood! STOP IT!
The teaser of the teaser doesn’t convince me much, but I just can’t wait for this movie.
Is going to be great!
I fear the prosthetic will be too distracting, and I won’t be able to get absorbed in the film.
The videos are gone! And a good thing too. I guess Sony took ‘em down because we wouldn’t want any actual publicity and awareness for this movie would me! That would be BAD – I mean for people to actually see stuff and get excited….er…
I can’t wait for the teaser for the teaser for the teaser for the teaser of Skyfall!!!
