After posting the trailer for director Rian Johnson’s Looper yesterday, some of you may have been left with questions about the time-traveling assassin flick. As luck has it, Johnson took a few minutes to dissect the trailer and call out specific things that fans should be anticipating. Johnson not only spoke about the look of the film, in what he called a “grounded science fiction world,” but also advised fans to wait and see Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s performance in make-up to get the total picture. He also commented on filming action scenes with Bruce Willis, saying that the veteran “showed us the ropes.” Looper also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, Noah Segan, Piper Perabo, and Jeff Daniels and opens on September 28th. Here’s the official synopsis for Looper, with Johnson’s commentary in an interview with MTV News following:
In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce.
