A couple of days ago, word broke that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment was about to release the inevitable ultimate Blu-ray collector’s set for The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings fans that would bring both franchises together in one nifty package. Indeed, said collector’s set has now been confirmed, officially announcing that the Middle-earth 6-Film Collection will be released as a limited collector’s edition box set on November 1st. Moreover, for those that can’t break the bank, a theatrical collection is also being released.

Both sets feature all six films in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, but only the Limited Collector’s Edition includes both the theatrical cuts and the extended cuts of each film. That box set will also feature all previously released bonus content from both versions of the films, as well as an exclusive 100-page sketch-style book with replica The Red Book of Westmarch, and two original reproductions of watercolor paintings by acclaimed conceptual artists Alan Lee and John Howe.

So what’s the damage? Brace yourselves: the 30-disc Middle-earth 6-Film Limited Collector’s Edition will run you a whopping $799.99 at SRP. The Middle-earth 6-Film Collection Theatrical Versions will be on sale as a 6-disc Blu-ray for a far more reasonable $68.99 and DVD for $35.99 SRP. Fans will also be able to purchase the theatrical versions on digital HD.

So yeah, that’s a pretty hefty bill. You can check out images and cover art for the new home video sets below, followed by the press release. Again, this all will be available on November 1st—just in time for the holidays!
