Producers Hope for MEN IN BLACK-Style Franchise from Creature Comic Adaptation LORE

     July 29, 2010

Following Comic-Con 2009, the husband-and-wife comic book team of Ashley Wood (illustrator) and T.P. Louise (author) sold the rights to their World War Robot to mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer.  Not ones to break tradition, the week after SDCC 2010 brings news that their mythological creature graphic novel Lore is likewise on a path to the big screen.  According to Heat Vision, Cory Goodman (Priest) and Jeremy Lott have signed on to write the screenplay.

The producers are reportedly hoping to kickstart a Men in Black-style franchise, swapping mythological beings for those of an extraterrestrial nature.  Hit the jump for the official synopsis.

In times past, the world was full of mythical creatures, creatures long since banished and held at bay by the secret society of Shepherds. But when the generational line of Shepherds is broken, a reluctant hero finds her life threatened from every quarter. And the creatures are coming back…

Now, IDW presents this Premiere Edition of Lore, written by T.P. Louise and acclaimed artist Ashley Wood. Primarily a prose tale, Wood provides panel and spot illustrations that help bring this story to life. Lore Premiere Edition collects the entire six issues of this unique and mystical series, along with a gallery of artwork from Wood, all within a handsome hardcover.

Just browsing around trying to find images for this article… Wood’s artwork is gorgeous.  I don’t know how the visual style will translate to screen (or if they’ll even try), but it could potentially be something very pretty.  Not sure how well “pretty” coalesces with “MIB-style franchise”, but I guess I can always read the comic.

I’ll leave you with some of the works Wood has posted to his website
