Luc Besson hasn’t had a social media presence whatsoever, but that’s changing big time today. Why? "Because I’m starting today the biggest challenge of my career and I don’t want to be alone.”

That challenge is a big screen adaptation of Valerian, a French science fiction comics series from writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières. Dane DeHaan will lead the film as the title character, a member of an elite corps of time travel agents, and Cara Delevingne will step in as his partner, Laureline. Together, they travel the universe through space and time, helping to maintain order in the 28th century.

Valerian will mark EuropaCorp’s most ambitious project yet. Besson is expected to start rolling at the end of the year with the film heading towards a summer 2017 release. Here’s the description of Valerian Volume 1 via Amazon:

VALERIAN is a saga that every fan of Star Wars and Star Trek will identify with and love. Valerian and his beautiful, sharp-witted and sharp-tongued partner, Laureline, live adventures set against visually stunning backgrounds: complex architectural inventions, futuristic machines, otherworldly landscapes, and odd-looking aliens that are staples of artist Mezieres's seemingly boundless visual inventiveness. The stories are gripping and of epic proportion, sweeping along in trilling, hyper-space speed.
