Marvel and Netflix have unveiled the first Luke Cage poster for the upcoming Netflix series, and it’s a swell encapsulation of the Marvel superhero. Last month, during the Comic-Con panel for the third standalone series from the Marvel/Netflix partnership, Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Coker summed up the importance of the show by stating, “I think the world is ready for a bulletproof black man.” Indeed, in the fantastic trailer that was released shortly thereafter, we saw that Luke Cage will be an unabashedly black superhero series, not shying away from how Cage’s race affects and impacts his life as a superhero.

This new poster features a striking image, showing Mike Colter’s Cage full of bullet holes and yet still standing. The hero was first introduced in the excellent series Jessica Jones, where he quickly became a standout. However, with Luke Cage we’ll get the chance to see how the character interacts in his world, hopefully offering up an entirely new flavor of superhero story just as Jessica Jones was strikingly different from Daredevil. Indeed, the story of Luke Cage takes place after the events of Jones, as the character relocates to Harlem.

Colter will eventually join forces with Krysten Ritter, Charlie Cox, and Iron Fist star Finn Jones in the team-up miniseries The Defenders, but before we get to that we’ll get to enjoy Luke Cage first. Luckily, the wait isn’t too far off.

After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.
