While Jessica Jones premieres on Netflix this coming Thursday, March 8th, the streaming service is using this premiere week to announce the return date of another Marvel Netflix series: Luke Cage. Indeed, the first Luke Cage Season 2 trailer and images have been released online, announcing that Mike Colter’s superhero will return with an all new season on June 22nd.

While Daredevil and Iron Fist changed showrunners in between seasons, Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker is back for Season 2, spearheading 13 all-new episodes. Moreover, Lucy Liu directs the Season 2 premiere, with Simone Missick, Alfre Woodard, Theo Rossi, Mustafa Shaki, Gabrielle Dennis, and Rosario Dawson filling out the cast.

Few plot details are found in this teaser trailer or the official synopsis, but the logline says that Cage’s increased visibility has also increased his need to protect his community, and figure out the limits of who he can and can’t save. He’ll face off against a new formidable foe this time around which forces Cage to confront the fine line between a hero and a villain.

While these Marvel Netflix shows were all designed to lead up to the team-up miniseries The Defenders, that show premiered to a somewhat mixed response, and in the wake of The Defenders it feels like maybe that show’s events will have little bearing on the individual series going forward. In her review for Jessica Jones Season 2, Collider’s TV editor Allison Keene noted how The Defenders had no impact on the story for this new season of JJ, and that could very well be the case with Luke Cage as well.

Netflix and Marvel are being tight-lipped about future plans, and The Defenders Season 2 has not been announced so it’s unclear if we’re building to another team-up series, or if the shows will now simply exist mostly separate from each other.

Either way, Luke Cage Season 2 arrives in just a few short months, and you can check out the first trailer and images below.

Here’s the official synopsis for Luke Cage Season 2:

After clearing his name, Luke Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.
