While I am a fan of director M. Night Shyamalan’s story ideas, his feature film track record has fallen off precipitously since 1999′s The Sixth Sense. Perhaps a dip in the small screen pool will get him back on track, as Shyamalan is heading to SyFy with the scripted series, Proof. Based on an original idea from Shyamalan (+1), Proof revolves around the orphaned son of billionaire parents who offers a reward if someone can present proof of life after death; Shyamalan will also direct (-1?). Hit the jump for more.
THR also reported that Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) would be attached to the project as a producer. Noxon and Shyamalan would co-write the project, as well as being on hand as executive producers alongside Ashwin Rajan of Shyamalan’s Blinding Eagle.
SyFy recently parted ways with longtime series Eureka and opted out of renewing Sanctuary, while extending Total Blackout and Lost Girl. The cable network gave Proof a put-pilot commitment, basically guaranteeing that the pilot will be aired and the series will likely be picked up, as otherwise they’d have to pay out anyway.
Shyamalan recently wrapped on After Earth, a futuristic sci-fi film that stars Will Smith and Jayden Smith as, you guessed it, father and son.
