Mad Max: Fury Road Fever has overtaken the world, and it feels good. While the movie didn’t come close to the astronomical box office of a superhero movie or shared universe film, it continues to have solid legs and perform impressively for an R-rated semi-reboot of a decades old franchise. It really does seem like Fury Road is destined to be one of those touchstone movies that inspires young folks to become filmmakers, and it’s already solidified itself as an instant classic.

So in the spirit of Fury Road Madness, PlayStation has revealed the story trailer for the upcoming tie-in video game Mad Max. The game looks to be only tangentially connected to George Miller’s masterpiece, as the titular Max is very much modeled on Mel Gibson’s iteration of the character and the storyline is quite different. There are, however, plenty of War Boys.

It’s kind of a shame that Charlize Theron’s Furiosa isn’t in the game, as this would’ve been a fantastic opportunity to have a great female-fronted storyline. It’s possible the game was simply created completely separately from the film, or Theron and Co. didn’t sign off on using their likenesses, but it’s no less disheartening to see that the women in Mad Max appear to be treated like 99% of women in the video game world: as trophies, objects, or damsels in graphic distress.

Regardless, check out the Mad Max trailer below. The game will be released September 1st on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
