Warner Bros. has acquired domestic distribution rights to director Steven Soderbergh’s male-stripper movie Magic Mike. Deadline also reports that WB has slated the film for a June 29th, 2012 release date where it will square off against G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation. The pic is a semi-autobiographical tale about star Channing Tatum’s days as a stripper. Alex Pettyfer plays a young up-and-coming stripper who is mentored by Tatum’s character. In an effort to give every guy in the country low self esteem, the film also stars Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Riley Keough, Gabriel Iglesias, Cody Horn, Kevin Nash, and Adam Rodriguez, as well as Olivia Munn, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and Betsy Brandt. Soderbergh’s spy thriller Haywire opens this January, and he’s poised to direct The Man from U.N.C.L.E. starring Bradley Cooper and his Liberace biopic The Man Behind the Candleabra starring Matt Damon and Michael Douglas next year.
