They've made waves both literally and figuratively with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but not director Gore Verbinski and writer Terry Rossio are moving into magical territory. Deadline says the duo are developing a drama series at Fox called Magical Law which takes place in a world here the existence of supernatural beings is commonplace and follows the specialized cops and lawyers who face the unique challenges of prosecuting otherworldly crimes.

The project sounds very similar to another magical police procedural which we heard Ronald Moore, creator of the new Battlestar Galactica, was said to be developing to series. Since his name isn't mentioned with this new project, I can only assume that the two will be competing for network affections to determine which of these similar series will actually end up on the air (if either of them are good enough). Jeff Rake (Bones, Boston Legal) is writing and executive producing Verbinski, Rossio and Jonathan Krauss of Blind Wink Productions (Verbinski's banner). The concept, sounds promising, so we'll keep you posted as more information becomes available. Interested?
