Ever since Sony Pictures and MGM announced director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Southpaw) would be remaking The Magnificent Seven I’ve been excited to see it. The tremendous cast includes Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ethan Hawke, Martin Sensmeier, Matt Bomer, Haley Bennett, and Peter Sarsgaard. Scripted by True Detective writer/showrunner Nic Pizzolatto and Richard Wenk (The Equalizer), the film revolves around seven outlaws who band together to protect a small town from a violent industrialist.

Shortly after seeing the film at the Toronto International Film Festival I landed an exclusive video interview with Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington. They talked about collecting wisdom as they get older, memorable moments from filming, and why Washington leaves Fuqua alone when he’s editing the picture. Check out the interview above.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Magnificent Seven:

With the town of Rose Creek under the deadly control of industrialist Bartholomew Bogue (Peter Sarsgaard), the desperate townspeople employ protection from seven outlaws, bounty hunters, gamblers and hired guns – Sam Chisolm (Denzel Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), Billy Rocks (Byung-Hun Lee), Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), and Red Harvest (Martin Sensmeier). As they prepare the town for the violent showdown that they know is coming, these seven mercenaries find themselves fighting for more than money.
