Disney has released a new teaser trailer and banner for director Robert Stromberg’s upcoming film Maleficent.  The pic tells the story of how the Sleeping Beauty villain became, well, a villain.  Angelina Jolie plays the titular character, a woman whose betrayal sets off a drive of revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides.  This new banner and teaser both focus on Maleficent’s ginormous wingspan, which Jolie’s narration tells us was lost for some unstated reason.  A full-length trailer for the pic will be unveiled tomorrow, which should give us a more solid idea of the premise for the film since the previous trailers have simply focused on the mood and atmosphere.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer tease and to check out the new banner, and come back to Collider tomorrow to watch the full trailer.  The film also stars Elle FanningSharlto CopleySam RileyImelda StauntonJuno Temple, and Lesley Manville.  Maleficent opens in 2D and 3D on May 30th. [Update: We've added some new images after the jump as well, including the first looks at Copley's character and the three sisters.]

Here’s the official synopsis for Maleficent:

“Maleficent” explores the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the classic “Sleeping Beauty” and the elements of her betrayal that ultimately turn her pure heart to stone. Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever.
