3 Featurettes and a New TV Spot for MAN OF STEEL Reveal Exciting New Footage

     May 14, 2013

Warner Bros. has unveiled three brand new behind-the-scenes featurettes and a new TV spot for director Zack Snyder’s Superman film Man of Steel, highlighting some great new footage alongside interviews with members of the cast and crew.  Each of the three featurettes focuses on one of the film’s themes, so we’ve got Speed focusing on Superman’s intensely quick movements, Strength focusing on the two different approaches to Supes’ abilities from his two fathers (Russell Crowe’s Jor-El and Kevin Costner’s Pa Kent), and finally the self-explanatory Flight.  Along with new footage, we see Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Crowe, Snyder, and producers Deborah Snyder and Charles Roven talking about the film.

Hit the jump to take a look at the featurettes and new TV spot.  Man of Steel opens in 3D on June 14th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Man of Steel:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

Just a thought… The TV spot shows some giant space ship destroying a good chunk of a city while Superman’s father provides a voice over saying “You can save all of them”. Anyone thinking we might see Supe’s reverse the spinning of the Earth to go back in time to “save all of them”???? God I hope not, but the strategic placing of the voiceover begs one to wonder…

    • Roger Goldleader

Yeah, I am thinking that, too.

    • DontSpinThePlanet!

I hope not too, even as a child I thought that was extremely stupid. Sorry, spinning a rock doesn’t make it travel back through time, hahha.

    • sense11

Perhaps the city was evacuated before the machine attacked, just a thought

    • onionrovirosa

      you think too much

    • pinkincide

He didn’t spin the earth to go back in time, he flew faster than light. It just made sense to go around the earth to build up speed. It was still stupid and impossible, sense he would attain infinite mass as he approached light speed and rip the earth apart.

Nothing was stupider than throwing the cellophane S from his chest, though. Youtube that one. It was the 70′s .Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

      • Bob

Uhh… I think you need to watch again, he clearly changed the earth to spin in the opposite direction, while looking below himself watching things reverse… then flew the other way to correct the spin

  • Javan Clark

Pretty sure Jor El is just providing a pep talk. Superman is not the typical Kryptonian. He’s.. more than… He can save them all. Try not to get caught up in the idea that it’s only the powers that make Clark who he is. It’s so much more than that.

Too much MOS – I’m still excited to see the movie, but they are giving away too much. I keep checking back on collider hoping to see more from MOS, but I hate myself for doing so. I prefer the mystique of not knowing much before going in…

  • croc

so much teasing, i can’t take it!

  • Bob

I thought his real father dies when his home planet is destroed? No? I could have sworn. But here he’s talking to him when he’s older. Can someone maybe clear this up for me?

    • SonofSteel

When he sends Clark to earth he also sends with him crystals with teachings for Clark to learn when he is ready. That is not to say though that they won’t somehow make it possible for him to be there

  • NMC1

Ok, I’m not liking the shaky cam and lens flare during the Costner to the kid scene, takes away from the drama, but excited for the film

PEOPLE spinning around the earth is al about the maximum ability “the movies” could provide at that time (special effects wise i mean).. so i’m just saying that i won’t be disappointed if they can pull it off.. in a credible way.. NO?

  • Unique Jenique

    Ovaries gone!

  • Joe

It’s unclear who Jor-El is speaking to when he says “you can save them all”. But indeed if it’s Kal-El he’s talking to, then its a different approach from the Donner films Jor-El, who said it was “forbidden” for Kal-El to interfere in human history.

I’m more hyped up to see this movie now after seeing the TV spots. Finally a real Superman movie! Bout time Superman smacks the shit out of his opponent in a movie.

  • highly_suspicious

It looks like they’ve taken a lot of Earth One for this.
That’s a good thing, it was a great book.

  • Travis

GET ME TO THE MOVIE ALREADY! I am almost to the point of completely avoiding an info/clips about this film because I fear I will learn too much about it. I can’t freaking wait for this to happen!
