With positive buzz and strong indications that Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel is going to churn out a big box office this weekend, it comes as no surprise that a sequel is now going forward at Warner Bros.  It’s being reported that the writer/director team of David S. Goyer and Snyder will return as the creative team behind the sequel.  Producer and story contributor Christopher Nolan is also expected to return in some fashion for the follow-up, but not to the extent to which he was involved on Man of Steel.  As Deadline also reports, Nolan will be involved with the Justice League film plotted for the future with Superman at the center.  Hit the jump for more.

Man-of-Steel-zack-snyder-imageDirector Zack Snyder mentioned the possible sequel to Man of Steel during a recent interview with Steve.  Relative to a question about returning for a Justice League film, Snyder said:

“I feel like you need to get Superman a little further down the road before you can do a Justice League movie.”

While it’s not exactly a surprise that a Man of Steel sequel is in the works, fans will be happy to hear that the studio is reportedly confirming its development. (We’ve yet to get an official press release ourselves, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out to be true.)  WB and DC need to establish a strong foundation for their comic book properties if they have any desire to go toe to toe with Marvel’s already-established pantheon of heroes and villains.  While a Man of Steel sequel comes as good news on this front, I for one hope to hear news on some of their other properties over the next year or so.  For now, let’s just see how Man of Steel does when it opens this weekend!  Be sure to check back tonight for Matt’s review and get caught up on all of our previous coverage here, or skim over some recent news items below:
