The first images of Russell Crowe all gussied up in his costume as Jor-El from Man of Steel have surfaced online. We don’t see him interacting with any other actors on set, but we do see Superman’s dad smoking a cigarette while wearing alien clothes. The costume actually looks pretty cool. He’s got an otherworldly-looking “S” on the front, and a super awesome cape. Crowe plays Superman’s biological father in Zack Snyder’s reboot, which has Henry Cavill set as the Man of Steel himself. Julia Ormond was originally set to play Superman’s biological mother Lara Lor-Von opposite Crowe, but she was recently replaced with Ayelet Zurer.

Hit the jump to see the images. The film also stars Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Harry Lennix, and Christopher Meloni. Man of Steel opens June 14th, 2013.

Here’s the official synopsis for Man of Steel:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

  1. Being a big fan of Russell,I know he’ll do justice to the role.I think the costume is okay, not
comparing it to Marlon Brando from the original one.

    • There’s other movies coming out like Star Wars, Jurassic Park. Both in 3D. Iron Man 3, A Good Day To Die Hard, new Star Trek movie, Independence Day 3D,

  2. Not in love with the costumes from this film but then again, I haven’t seen the finished product. I will say however that the casting gives me a ton of hope and I’m very much looking forward to the final film. I suppose I can’t completely begrudge a different take on the source material.

  3. I feel like this costume belongs to an order. I think the finished product is going to deliver a vision of Kryptonian life…the heritage…through details like costume and set. And ever since I first saw Jim Lee’s updated suit look for the New 52, I felt like this movie has a plan because they clearly have adopted the same suit and this new image suggests they’ve adopted it across the board.

  4. COSTUME LOOKS LIKE RUSSELL WAS WEARING A MOSQUITO NET, TRIPPED AND FELL INTO A PILE OF LORD OF THE RINGS MOVIE MEMORBILIA.

THIS MOVIE IS LOOKING AWFUL SO FAR….ONLY DESPERATE DC SUPERMAN FANS ARE LIKING THIS CRAP.

  5. Brando…Crowe…hmmm. No wait it’s more like those Skinny Elvis/Fat Elvis stamps to choose from. Except Brando was getting pretty hefty about then. So, let’s call it Jor-El Classic and White Trash Jor-El smoking a Lucky and sporting his Miller High Life beer belly. Screw You!
