Rough Cut MAN OF STEEL Toy Commercials Confirm Zod Is the Villain; Possibly Reveal New Details

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, in one of the most needless attempt at being coy, director Zack Snyder wouldn’t confirm if Zod was the villain Man of Steel.  An audience member during the Q&A assumed Michael Shannon was playing Zod, and Snyder danced around whether or not Zod was Shannon’s character.  Today, rough cut toy commercials apparently confirm that Zod is the villain.  The commercials also possibly reveal new details about the film.  Not that Superman has Stretch Armstrong powers and will fling himself at his enemies in order to defeat them (although that would be pretty terrific), but as is usually the case, the toys probably reveal some plot element that the studio wanted to keep under wraps.

Hit the jump to check out the commercials, but be warned that they might contain spoilers.  Man of Steel opens June 14, 2013.

Here’s the official synopsis for Man of Steel:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

I think someone is going to be fired for leaking this. Expect these to be taken down by WB very slightly. Regarding their content, I’m still completely ambivalent toward this project.

Crappy toys aside, its pretty interesting.

    1…
The ZOD figure is bald and white faced like the prometheus engineers???
    2…
Zod has an army of robots??

    3…
The Black zero is Zod’s spaceship! but in the comics i heard Black zero was a human/kryptonian villain that apparently destroyed Krypton.

so, is Zod arriving on Earth to rule with an army and using his spaceship as a weapon as a threat?
sounds like there will be some fighting.

      your totally right

Why…does Superman…need a jet? (also why is one of the jets called “Fortress of Solitude”? Did Snyder really pull that crap?)

Am I the only one that thinks that seemed completely fake? Like it was meant to have all of that be bullshit. Fortress of Solitude plane, Zod being bald, Black Zero space ship, all like maybe they’re messing with the fanboy’s expectations. It just seemed like it wasn’t real to me (probably is real) it just didn’t seem like that would really be apart of the Superman story. On the other hand I’ve seen 100 toy commercials for movies that have nothing to do with the movie at all. But for some reason I can’t shake the fakeness of this.

those have to be the worst toys ive ever seen.. and the worst toy commercials ever.. it seemed intentionally bad

These have to be fake. Kids don’t play with toys like these any more. These feel like they were made in the 80′s but not in a cool nostalgic way. More like an acid wash jeans way.

    Damn! Those toys are awful!

  • Kenny B

Those are from March 2011 guys.

  • BeanBag

Those are the most retarded toys I’ve ever seen.

Are they the first trailers? Not as bad as I thought it would be.
Looks like the movie was shot on a bit of a budget though. The flight scenes were quite realistic and Zod looks amazing, I loved the robot army and how superman can just fly straight through them.
I hope Snyder adds some slow motion before the full movie comes out….
    So far, promising.

Better than the crappy trailer they released to the public.

I’m most upset about them using Brandon Routh’s footage as Superman. WTF?!?!?

Instinct says this is completely fake (horrible production value, cheesy voice over, obvious canon mistakes, zod looking a lot like lex, etc). However, why would anyone go to all the trouble of creating all this crap just for an internet troll? Are some people really that bored? Sigh…
