Since almost everyone on Planet Earth hasn’t seen the new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace, what’s posted below will be as spoiler free as possible. But if you don’t want to know anything about the movie…please stop reading. You’ve been warned.

A few days ago I participated in the Quantum of Solace press day and did roundtable interviews with some of the cast, producers Barbara Broccoli & Michael Wilson and director Marc Forster. While full transcripts will be posted in the next week or two, I wanted to post something Marc said immediately.

The reason…it has to do with the next James Bond movie.

As most of you know, Quantum of Solace starts about an hour after Casino Royale ended. It’s absolutely a sequel and that’s one of the best things about the movie. If you never saw Casino Royale you can still enjoy it…but if you were a fan of Daniel Craig’s first Bond movie…this will reward you with a continuation of the previous films storyline.

Anyway, let’s get to the reason you’re here. And be careful…this is where minor spoilers start….

It seems when director Marc Forster filmed Quantum of Solace, he originally had a different ending in mind. The original ending made Quantum the middle chapter of a trilogy. But after their first screening, Marc removed the last scene (which ran about a minute) and ended the movie in such a way that it leaves the door open for the next filmmaker to decide what to do.

For the next film, they can either use the deleted ending as their start point, or they can pretend that it never happened and just begin fresh. And while I would have loved to seen theoriginal ending in this film…I have to agree with the producers and Marc that it was a good decision to end where they did.

While I won’t spoil the way this film ends, it’s a great ending and one that leaves many possibilities for the future.

And if you’d like to read exactly what Marc said…here it is...but there are minor spoilers in the text. DO NOT READ this if you want to stay spoiler free before watching Quantum of Solace!

Also, you can hear what Marc said by clicking here. But it’s the entire interview, not just these selected quotes.

Question: What can fans look forward to on the DVD/Blu-ray as far as deleted scenes or extras? Or are you even thinking about that yet?

Marc Forster: Not so much yet but there is only one little deleted scene and then there’s tons of footage from behind the scenes, you know we made the whole behind the scenes piece and several other pieces that they’ve been working on, so I just looked at it a little bit but that’s probably what will be included.

Was that scene a different ending?

Marc: That scene? Actually yes, where it ends now there was another scene following. But I took that scene out.

Can you tell us what this scene might be?

Marc: No, you don’t want to spoil that because…it’s better just to keep it as it is. I mean it’s like I was thinking we shot the scene and it worked. I think it’s a great scene and everybody loved it and that’s the 1st screening I had was that scene and then we just felt no, let’s just end it right there on that necklace. He got his quantum of solace. That’s where it is, that’s where the movie ends and let’s not even go there.

Can you tell me how long it is though?

Marc: It’s like a minute.

Okay. Interesting.

Marc: I tell you that he does encounter Mr. White in that scene.

Really? You’re killing me now.

Marc: So you can almost start the next movie with that scene.

That’s what I wanted to know.

Marc: I don’t know if it’s a trilogy or not but they’re thinking…I don’t know. I was thinking to them if they wanted to they could just like…

That’s what I was curious about because this one ends like it’s a book-end. It’s a part 2 of 2 and that scene would have been part 2 of 3.

Marc: And that’s why because like them it gives them the opportunity to either start completely new or to….but with that scene you’re almost forced to follow the movie into a trilogy.

Very interesting.
