Screenwriter Mark Bomback (Jack the Giant Killer, the upcoming remake of Total Recall) is set to re-write Christopher McQuarrie’s script for James Mangold’s The Wolverine.  According to Variety, the story still revolves around Wolvie heading to Japan where he falls in love and fights the country’s criminal underworld with nothing but a healing factor, super strength, an adamantium skeleton, and razor-sharp retractable claws (Am I the only one who thinks Wolverine is overpowered?).  The entire cast will be comprised of Japanese and Japanese-American actors except for the new character “Viper” who’s the white secretary for Japan’s Minister of Justice.  I guess the Japanese government is cool hiring people who sound like they should be in a biker gang.  As we previously reported, filming will take place in Vancouver but Variety reports the film will also shoot in Tokyo.  Filming will begin next year after Hugh Jackman wraps on Les Miserables.

Bomback’s previous credits include Live Free or Die Hard, Unstoppable, Godsend, Deception, and the remake of Race to Witch Mountain.  I try not to hang bad movies on the screenwriter since blockbuster films have so many uncredited scribes, but that filmography does not inspire confidence.

was’nt the big thing Hugh Jackman kept on saying is how great and perfect the script is and all they needed was a director?

Not to be too nerdy, but wolverine does not have super strength. He may have peak human strength due to his healing factor, and he may be able to lift heaver objects and hit harder because his bones are laced with metal, but no “super” strength.

I’m gonna have to go break out my Marvel trading cards and check his stats on the back.

        Rofl!

My interest in this movie would’ve dropped but it was already so low that it couldn’t. These re-writes show that there was obviously still problems with the script but they were gonna go ahead and rush by shooting this fall anyways. Maybe First Class was just anomaly for FOX.

First Class wasn’t that great. It had some cool scenes but overall it wasn’t better than the first or second x-men movies. The thing is we have all been let down so much by these movies that when something comes out that doesn’t completely suck we give it way more credit than it deserves.

I kind of agree with that because I liked First Class but I wasn’t wowed by it. There is still no X-Men movie that can take the awesomeness of the Wolverine scene in the Mansion in X2 and do that for 120 minutes.

First Class sucked majorly. I hated every second of it. What a piece of trash.

I think Wolverine will also face off with Daken, Matsu’o Tsurayaba, Ogun and Shingen Yashida in this movie.

I think we can also expect to see Tyger Tiger (Jessan Hoan), Itsu, Amiko Kobayashi, Mariko Yashida and Yukio in this film.

I really hope the re-write is for the better. Especially how everyone in hollywood were gushing over the original script

Have you ever in your life heard an actor, director, producer or anyone related to a film come out ahead of or during production and say “this script is shit”? That has never happened even though most scripts are shit after they’ve been taken from the writers and hacked apart by uncreative idiots who are more concerned in product placement opportunities rather than a cohesive well thought out story.

Wolverine is overpowered?? Are you retarded??? He’d lose in a fight with almost every mutant.

    Wolverine vs. Xavier=Wolverine’s fucked
    Wolverine vs. Jean=Wolverine’s fucked
    Wolverine vs. Magneeto=… duh

His lack of projectile power easily makes him one of the most vulnerable and fundamentally worthless mutants. Sure he kicks ass in the movies, but he can’t stand up to a dozen M-16 wielding soldiers like the others can.

They should just let this thing die a peaceful, quiet death.

Am I the only one who thinks Matt G is a whiney little bitch?

    • Strong Enough

yup ur the only one. Matt is King of the world

  • Nawtnt

I think The Wolverine should even been made because the first one was just awful.

Still, X-Men: First Class turn out to be great so this movie might be great.

If Chris McQuarrie’s script was good enough for Darren Aronofsky, why not James Mangold and 20th Century Fox- me smells studio inteference (again), and it doesn’t smell good…

  • Robbie

I don’t know how much credit a writer should take for any project, I got the impression that they are hired to do something the director/producer or stupid commitee of studio idiots are too lazy to do.

Do they not just take the note and hit the keys?
