Twitter is, at once, the worst thing that’s ever happened to humanity and the best thing that’s ever happened to humanity. There are many good things that have come from the connectedness of the social media platform, and also many awful, terrible things. So here’s a story that falls into the former category.

Writer/director James Gunn is currently hard at work scripting Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which doesn’t hit theaters until sometime in 2020 so he’s got some time. But fans frequently reach out to the filmmaker over Twitter to offer their questions, demands, and suggestions as Gunn works on what will likely be his final Guardians movie. One such fan reached out to Gunn on Sunday requesting that none other than Mark Hamill score a role in the Marvel Studios sequel, and instead of ignoring the request or brushing it off, Gunn actually responded by revealing that Hamill lives near Gunn, suggesting the two discuss it over coffee.

Hamill sparked to the request, calling himself an “unemployed actor,” and it seems as though Hamill and Gunn are indeed going to meet up. Whether this actually leads to a role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is anyone’s guess—it’s very early in the script stage and who knows what Hamill’s schedule looks like next year, when Guardians 3 will likely start filming. But Gunn did enlist an impressive roster of actors for smaller roles in Guardians 2, including Sylvester Stallone and Michelle Yeoh, and the fact that Gunn actually responded affirmatively to the request makes it seem like there just might be a role for Hamill in the sequel. If this all comes to pass, that also means Hamill will officially become a canon character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which would be kind of fantastic.

So don’t hold your breath because again, who knows what’s going to happen, but this is at the very least a Twitter exchange/thread that won’t leave you feeling depressed and/or angry by the end. Check out the whole thing below.
