Mark Wahlberg Producing Series for HBO Set in the World of Pornography

It’s pretty well understood that HBO has no problem with some erotic and steamy content in series like Hung, True Blood and Sex and the City. The cable network knows that sex sells, but now it looks like they’re going to dive head first into the world of capitalist sex as The New York Post reports producers Mark Wahlberg and Steve Levinson are working with controversial and scrutinized writer James Frey to develop a one-hour drama that will delve into the world of pornography.

Though we’re not going to run any dirty pictures to go along with the story (that’s what the rest of the Internet is for) there’s more details on the series after the jump.

The drama series will use both Hollywood actors and real adult film stars in a story that will focus on a giant adult video company facing *ahem* stiff competition from online companies. Meanwhile a girl from the Midwest is convinced by her boyfriend to move to Los Angeles to become a star, but it’s unclear if he wants her to be a porn star or if she’s forced to turn to the adult entertainment industry after she fails in Hollywood.

Frey says, “We’re going to make a sprawling epic about the porn business in LA. We’re going to tell the type of stories no one else has told before, and go places no one has gone before.” It’s going to be kind of hard to find any places that many, many people haven’t gone before in the porn industry, but I get what he’s saying. This sounds a lot like a pornography centric version of Entourage (which isn’t surprising since Wahlberg produces that series), but I’m sure the saucy material will attract plenty of viewers.
