Marvel Developing AGENT CARTER TV Series Around 1940s S.H.I.E.L.D. Operative Peggy Carter

We have seen a couple clips from the Marvel One-Shot Agent Carter that show Hayley Atwell kicking ass as Peggy Carter, a 1940s British operative who joins a new organization called S.H.I.E.L.D. after the events of Captain America.  The short is on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray (due September 24), but this may not be the last we see of Peggy Carter.  Agent Carter director Louis D’Esposito revealed to us, “There are going to be more Peggy Carter stories that we need to tell… What we’ll do and how we’ll do it has not been determined yet, but those discussions have started.”

A report surfaced tonight that the future adventures of Peggy Carter may continue on television as an Agent Carter series in development at Marvel.  More after the jump.

marvel-agent-carter-hayley-atwellDeadline hears Marvel is in the early stages of developing an Agent Carter television series and is currently “in the process of locking a writer.”  Interestingly, it is unclear if Atwell would reprise her role in a series.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres Tuesday—I can picture Marvel’s Agent Carter of S.H.I.E.L.D. as a prequel spinoff next fall if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. does as well as ABC dares to dream.  There is also the live-action Hulk series lingering in development (I think I’d like Marvel’s Agent Hulk of S.H.I.E.L.D. best of all), although it’s been over a year since ABC president Paul Lee hoped the show would make the Fall 2013 lineup.  Marvel and Disney are clearly exploring their opportunities on television.

Marvel is in no rush to confirm this news, and even development is no guarantee the series will come to fruition, but I think a period spy show puncutated by comic book fare sounds pretty cool.  In the meantime, you can preview Agent Carter action in the One-Shot clip below.
