Disney XD has renewed its popular animated series Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy for a second season. Marvel's president of TV Dan Buckley and Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada announced the renewal at New York Comic-Con. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Season 2 "will continue the thrilling space adventure that follows the ragtag group of misfits that fans have come to love as they fight to protect the galaxy" and is currently in production with a slated 2017 premiere date.

The series stars Will Friedle as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Trevor Devall as Rocket Raccoon, Vanessa Marshall as Gamora, David Sobolov as Drax the Destroyer, Kevin Michael Richardson as Groot, and James Arnold Taylor as Yondu and Cosmo.

All-new episodes of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy are currently airing on Disney XD Saturday nights throughout the month of October, further exploring the story the odd-ball character, The Collector. To date, the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series has pulled in 4.4 million unique total viewers.

Here's the official logline for Season 2.

In the exciting second season, the Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers team up to stop evil alien mad scientist, The High Evolutionary! After an epic battle, The Guardians discover an ancient weapon with mysterious powers. Now, with every alien baddie in the galaxy trying to get their hands, paws and tentacles on this weapon, The Guardians must unlock its secrets before it destroys them and everything they've sworn to protect.
