Matt Damon has already amassed an incredible catalog of director collaborations, having worked with Gus Van Sant, Steven Spielberg, Paul Greengrass, Terry Gilliam, Martin Scorsese, the Coen Brothers, Clint Eastwood, Cameron Crowe, and Neill Blomkamp.  Now he’s adding another brilliant filmmaker to the list by way of Christopher Nolan, as The Playlist reports that Damon has joined the ridiculous cast of Nolan’s sci-fi film Interstellar.  The story centers on a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

Hit the jump for more, including the nature of Damon’s role and word on when he’ll finally be making his directorial debut.

The folks over at The Playlist report that Damon will be playing a minor role in Interstellar, as he’ll only be on set for two weeks in Iceland out of the four month shoot.  The actor joins a cast that now includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, John Lithgow, Casey Affleck, Topher Grace, Ellen Burstyn, and Michael Caine.

Additionally, The Playlist also notes that Damon is lining up A Murder Foretold (also referred to as A Foreigner) as his directorial debut.  The actor previously intended to direct Promised Land, but scheduling issues forced him to seek a replacement in Gus Van Sant.  A Murder Foretold has a script by Argo scribe Chris Terrio and is based on a New Yorker article by David Grann.  The fascinating story revolves around the murder of beloved and devoted Guatemalan corporate attorney Rodrigo Rosenberg who played a videotape at his funeral predicting his murder and implicating the President, the President’s wife, and other close aides.  Rosenberg hoped his video would call attention to the epidemic of homicides and the government corruption that allowed such unchecked violence to continue.  However, an investigation by a special prosecutor led to a remarkable twist in the case but also a serious crackdown on violence.

Paramount and Indian Paintbrush are producing the pic, and THR has confirmed that Damon is indeed in talks to take the helm.  Hopefully this one moves forward sooner rather than later.
