From Vulture comes word on Damon’s small part in Gilliam’s The Zero Theorem, which stars Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) as Qohen Leth, an eccentric computer genius bent on discovering the purpose of existence, or lack thereof, through a mysterious project. Damon, who is currently sporting a shaved head, admits he’ll have to don a wig for the role, saying:
“I’m going to do three days with Terry Gilliam, and now that I have to shave my head. I need to do a wig for Terry’s movie.”
Damon elaborated on the picture:
“I’m just doing a very small part in it. Someone finally gave him money to do this one, thank God. It’s with Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton. I’d do anything for Terry. It’s been ten years since I last worked with him. I wrote Terry this whole e-mail, because we had this whole conversation about what the character would look like, because the story takes place in the future, but he had a specific look that he wanted, but then I had to [points to shaved head], and I said, ‘Terry, what should we do?’ And he said,’ Actually, we can take advantage of the fact that your head is shaved. Why don’t we change your hairline?’ So he mocked up a picture and sent me a real receding hairline, with white spiked hair. ‘We might as well take advantage of the fact that you’re bald and really do something, present you in a way you’ve never been seen before.’ “
So there you go: Matt Damon and Terry Gilliam setting future fashion trends for men’s hairstyles. Additionally, Gilliam revealed via his Facebook page that Peter Stormare (Fargo) and comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar (Notting Hill) had joined the cast. The Zero Theorem, also starring Melanie Thierry (Babylon, A.D.), starts shooting later this month.
Variety reports that Kline will star as Errol Flynn in The Last of Robin Hood, an indie pic set just days before Flynn’s death from a heart attack at the age of 50. The Glatzer/Westmoreland screenplay also follows Flynn’s relationship with 17-year-old Beverly Aadland, an actress who was reportedly seduced by Flynn when she was 15 and grew to love the man, eventually co-starring in his last film, Cuban Rebel Girls. Sarandon will star as Florence Aadland, Beverly’s stage mother who lived vicariously through her daughter and also confessed to a relationship with Flynn when she was in her teens. The Last of Robin Hood is currently in search for a young actress to play Beverly before their scheduled January production start.
