It’s surprising to see these Max Steel images so early, since the film based on the Mattel action figure and its accompanying Disney XD animated show was just gearing up to shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina a few months ago. Now it appears that the Stewart Hendler directed live action feature is at least far enough along to begin sharing some material. Moviefone got the first look at nine pics from the film today, and the project seems to be aimed squarely at the young adult fan base. Per Moviefone the film follows “16-year-old Max who is going through a particularly uncomfortable bout of puberty: it seems he has hidden powers that when combined with an extraterrestrial friend, Steel, produce ‘the universe’s most powerful energy.’ The two join forces to become super hero Max Steel.”

Disney XD star Ben Winchell stars as the titular Max Steel. Andy Garcia, Maria Bello and Ana Villafañe join him in the cast. Open Road will release the film sometime in 2015. Check out the pics below the jump!

looks good, I liked the cartoons designs, but the animation was pretty bad. Also hope the toys that go along with the movie are better than the ones that accompanied the show, which looked like they were for preschoolers with almost no articulation.

They should have changed the dude’s age because I simply cannot buy the fact that this kid is supposed to be 16.
