One of the greatest attributes that Jason Statham possesses when it comes to his roles in the action-movie genre is that he doesn't overthink things. That might sound like a slight, but it's not intended to be; Statham approaches his characters with a tough, no-nonsense focus and brings a believable physicality to each of them. It's this dogged dedication to his craft that makes a departure from his usual roles-like the exaggerated action hero character in Spy-hilariously effective. It's also why he's able to execute the role of expert assassin Arthur Bishop in The Mechanic like no other.

Now, Mechanic: Resurrection, a follow-up to the 2011 action film sees Statham's return as Bishop, who's thrust back into the world of murder and tasked with performing nearly impossible assassinations against his will. This first trailer is deceptively simple and yet engaging, featuring Bishop attempting to max out his assassination quota, but not revealing the money shot, thus preserving the anticipation for the film itself. The kills promise to be incredibly inventive, offering audiences something they haven't seen before, which is becoming rarer and rarer these days.

The film also stars Jessica Alba as a strange combination of a damsel in distress and a capable action heroine in her own right. It's unclear just how her character will factor into the story except to say that she's ultimately the cause of Bishop getting drawn back into action. Tommy Lee Jones, on the other hand, looks to be having more fun with his role than I've seen from him in a while. Gone is the stoic old rancher or the tough government agent, replaced by a rich man beset with enemies and a unique sense of fashion. The pairing of Lee Jones and Statham should make this one worth watching.
