Megan Fox NOT Returning for TRANSFORMERS 3 – Updated

by     Posted 3 years, 30 days ago

Comparing a director to Hitler probably isn’t the best way to get back into his next picture.  Deadline is reporting that Paramount has decided not to pick up Megan Fox’s option to appear in Transformers 3, a decision that the studio says was “ultimately” up to director Michael Bay. An insider says that “giving Shia a new love interest makes more sense for the story.”  And we all know how much Michael Bay cares about story.

Fox and Bay began their feud last summer where, among other comments, she compared Bay to Hitler and Napoleon, and he said she had a lot of growing up to do (said the man whose last movie had giant robot testicles and racist caricatures).  It seemed like the two had patched things up and there were no recent rumblings of dropping the actress.  As recently as two weeks ago, there were photos of her on the set standing next to Bumbleebee.  It’s possible that Fox wanted to be let go.  As recently as this week she was blaming the director for demanding a regimen of almost non-stop tanning.  I would ask who will replace her, but does anyone honestly care?  Transformers has never been about the human characters.

Fox will next be seen this summer in Jonah HexTransformers 3 hits theaters on July 1, 2011.

I will not miss her. While I was at the Dallas International Film Festival I got an opportunity to talk with Glenn Morshower. He had said he had just finished his stuff for Transformers 3. He’s an incredibly nice gentleman. I love Transformers for the visual effects and the story. When I watched the first movie, I was surprised to find a lot of humor in it.

The real question is if she is going to ruin Jonah Hex, a good comic book – I hope Josh Brolin’s epic acting can outshine her failure to do the same.

Are they eliminating her character, or getting someone else to play her character? Because if it's the former, what kind of batshit crazy director eliminates a main character from the story the day after principle photography begins?

now if only Micheal bay could also not return…this might just become a movie worth watching.

They just did her a favor.

Lets be honest though, they can replace the entire cast and people would still line up to see this sh*t. “Uh….It was stupid but the robots looked cool.”-average movie goer.

LOL @ all the people expecting Transformers to be art house Oscar caliber films. And I really don't think those twins were racist caricatures. They were just stupid. I also don't think anybody really hates Michael Bay. It's just trendy to say that you don't. Films are escapism, folks, did you all forget that? Michael Bay does what does best: makes escapism movies, and makes them well. If you like “real-life” so much, stay out of the theater and go watch History Channel, and stop being pretentious film-scholar-wannabe's.

  • MCP

I agree, will see the 3rd Transformers when it comes out.
Nothing wrong w/ Bay, at least its not Brett Ratner.

And for Megan Fox, oh well, theirs still plenty of hot women out there.
Looks are the only quality you need for that role.

    End of Line

There was a new link on IMDb saying that she chose to leave and that there will be a NEW love interest for Sam (not just Mikaela re-cast). If I had to guess, I would say that she has a cameo in Transformers 3, as she did shoot some material with just bumblebee. Perhaps she gets driven somewhere after her and Sam break up. *shrug*

You guys can say that Transformers has bad acting and is Robot-centric, but I like Shia's acting. He may not be oscar worthy but he isn't unbearable, like most people are making him and Megan Fox (and every other actor in the franchise) out to be. I find Shia to be quite entertaining.

theres no point in seeing transformers 3, the only reason i saw transformers 2 was because of fox…
its not like transformers came out and everyone went to see it because it was bringing back old memories … now without fox.. man i dunno

  • dogg

Uh oh, where in Hollywood can they find another bad actress with a nice ass? Impossible, I say.

  • Sezz

I only watched Transformers for her too, not that she was in it alot but it was worth seeing her sexy ass projected onto an Imax screen. Now I'll watch it at home on my HDTV if at all *Shrugs*(

Thanks god! This is the best news since hearing the TWINS weren't returning. This could be a good movie!

  • NightAvatar

Shia is awesome. He's an excellent actor. I see him really going places. I can't wait for Wall Street 2. He may turn out to be this generation's Robert Downey Jr or Harrison Ford.

  • NightAvatar

Fox? What the heck are you talking about? You went for the drumroll and fanfare BEFORE The movie began?

EDIT: Nevermind. Duh. You were talking about MEGAN FOX. Man, am I stupid! Lol.

Well, personally I went for Shia even though I'm a straight male. He's a freaking excellent actor. Funny and smart.

  • Vern

There's nobody who expected or wanted Transformers to be “art house Oscar caliber films.” Nobody. That's a phony argument made up to defend it because you can't defend it based on it actually having any good qualities. Just because it's a genre movie doesn't mean you have to settle for lowest common denominator inept moronic garbage that insults your intelligence. Nobody expected “art house Oscar caliber films” out of Star Wars, Alien, Predator, Die Hard, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and literally hundreds of other classic, well-made movies. But the people who made them still bothered to do a good job of creating characters and telling stories with pictures.

If you seriously believe the argument you just made then you're not a movie fan, you're just a consumer who actually prefers to be given slop. I'm not sure why you bother to read about movies before they come out if you're offended by other people asking for them to be well-made and entertaining.

Put it this way: do you see a difference between The Dark Knight and Batman and Robin? If you do, then stop making that “what did you expect, Shakespeare?” argument. It's total bullshit.

no offense bud. It just needs to be said. Retire that one, please.

Expecting coherent story telling and adequate pacing doesn't make anyone a “film scholar wannabe.” It just means not everyone is content to drill a hold in their brain and lower all their standards. Escapist movies are great. But they can still be good or bad. Perfect examples. Transformers was good. Transformers 2 was bad.

  • http://ixnayray-waypastcool.blogspot.com/ ixnayray

It's not that I want “real life” from the films I watch. I just expect them to be entertaining and coherent. Also, it helps if there are things like story, dialogue and plot… I hate to be a snob but these elements appeal to me as a film lover.

Oh, and one more thing : Smart? You can't even spell “Michael Bay” and “channel” properly you fucking moron. Your grammar and spelling are absolutely atrocious.

  • MonsterCow

No. What needs to be retired is people looking at the screen and seeing giant robots battling for some ridiculous macguffin and expecting stellar story lines. Your argument between Batman and Robin vs. The Dark Knight is an irresponsible analogy. Those were two completely different eras of movies made by two completely different directors. When you see 'directed by Michael Bay', you know what to expect. Had Transformers 2 been directed by say, Christopher Nolan, then yes, I would've expected better.

I'm sorry if your idea of a good time at the movies is spoiled by your lack of imagination. These movies were based off of a toy line, for Christ's sake. Raiders, Star Wars, etc., were all original ideas and had stellar talent behind them. Michael Bay isn't stellar…he's the go-to guy for commercial 'boom' movies. I know what to expect from his style. Apparently, you don't. Now…who's not the movie fan?

No offense, “bud”. But your shoe appropriately fits your mouth. Stick to Wes Anderson films, you'll be fine.

  • Boxer Santaros

    Most ignorance is willful.

  • HorrificGoat

So your argument is basically 'I knew it would be stupid and bad, so I wasn't disappointed. Whoa, hey, what's all these people on the internet saying it was stupid and bad?? WHAT DID THEY EXPECT???'

  • AU_Armageddon

haha so you admit you are faggot – story, dialog, plot. case closed! you go back to your shakspear in love with phillip morris movies on the history chanel and leave the reviuws to me and my best friend monsterCow.

    TRANSFORMERS 2 rulez
    MEGANS ASS RULEZ!

its not sposed to be shakspear you dumbass gays its sposed to be escapsm help me and monsterheffer from the bondage of our misirable lives where we will live in fantisy transformer land for 3 hours as rather a rude and indigested mass

    Ixnay on the upidstay!

  • http://ixnayray-waypastcool.blogspot.com/ ixnayray

I don't expect Shakespeare… I just expect a good movie when someone has hundreds of millions at their disposal. And there are many blockbuster movies that have story, dialogue and plot. But if you are saying i'm too high brow for films like Transformers then at least we agree on something.

And I don't recall admitting to homosexuality either but feel free to ramble on about your macho insecurity.

PS – I believe it's “reviews” not “reviuws”.

  • Vern

If you can't hope for somebody to make a competent movie out of it then why did you, probly an adult, go to see it? I doubt you go to the Chipmunks movies and shit like that so why this one that you say can't be good because it's based on a toy line?

I'm a fan of action movies and I hate Bay's style of action direction, so yes I'm familiar with it and knew I most likely wouldn't like those movies. I didn't mean to get worked up, it just pushes my buttons when people disrespect the potential of commercial movies by saying that it's not reasonable to expect them to be made with any kind of craft. I'm saying they can and should try to be great and that's why we go to them. Because we hope for a good one.

I still think the analogy fits. You're saying that only an asshole wouldn't settle for Batman and Robin, I'm saying why not wish for The Dark Knight? (And I have no clue why you're bringing up Wes Anderson. If that's some stereotype that young people use to pick on each other I'm too old to get it.)

I mean do you really believe what you said about movies being “just escapism”? It sounds like you're just asking for them to distract your from your life for 2 hours and nothing more. If that's true then I don't see how you can pick and choose between Batmen.

But as someone pointed out to me I'm sure you do like Transformers and have reasons for it, but just fell back on those cliche points because it's easier than articulating your response to the movie. That's fine. I just think it would be better to write about why you like the movie instead of how low your expectations were. I don't like these particular movies but I like all kinds of lowbrow genres disrespected by the mainstream and I think they're worth analyzing and defending instead of just saying “what did you expect? War and Peace?”

    thanks monstercow

  • MonsterCow

So…you hate Michael Bay's style and yet you watched Transformers 2. Okay, let's get into this.

Your analogy of the 'Batmen' movies is still null and void. You chose to pick the absolute WORST Batman ever, 'Batman & Robin' for comparison to obviously superior Dark Knight. You literally dug up the lowest common denominator to validate your reasons for comparisons. Why didn't you choose Tim Burton's Batman? Compared to the Dark Knight, it's visually inferior, but both films are equally as awesome, even if Batman is dated. But you picked the most hated Batman of 'em all, to excuse your lack of a better argument.

Also, you negated your whole argument by proclaiming that it upsets you when “people disrespect the potential of commercial movies by saying that it's not reasonable to expect them to be made with any kind of craft”. Was that line meant to be taken seriously? Really? You just explained exactly why people go and see “tripe” like TF2, because it's commercialism! Not everyone wants to sit through a Tarantino movie wading through 2 hours of dialogue to get to the visual excitement. And don't even misread that. I love Tarantino.

You are far too rooted in your existence to not find joy in escapism. There are equal reasons to love each and every movie made, but not by the same people. It's cool that you don't like Michael Bay, really. Most people respect that, I know I do. But to come to a message board and make very unstable analogies about two completely different genres of film renders your opinion moot. Your never too old to take your kids to the movies and laugh at the ridiculousness playing out onscreen.

I mean, c'mon. How seriously did you really want a studio to take a movie about giant alien robots, based off of a toyline/80's cartoon series? Yes, the Dark Knight was and IS great, because the tone of the movie is so deftly serious. But look at the source material: Batman has always been depicted as dark and serious. Transformers has always been depicted as colorful, action packed fun. You then take Batman & Robin visually witness the rape they did to the original material. At least Transformers attempted to stay resourceful.

Was I disappointed in TF2? Yes, very. But there's nothing wrong with enjoying eye-candy. I have other movies I can go to for intellectual stimulation. I don't want every film I see to challenge my brain, for God's sake. You sound like a smart guy, Vern. Don't let a good time at the movies make you feel that are in any way inferior to the snooty P.T. Anderson snobs.

  • Peabody

The point is, that all of the Batman movies are big commercial studio productions. They're all meant to appeal to the masses and make a lot of money. But that doesn't mean they all have to suck like Batman & Robin does. That doesn't mean that someone who thinks Batman & Robin is garbage is a snob because they hope for something better. The concept of a rich guy who dresses up like a bat to scare crooks doesn't seem much more sophisticated to me than giant alien robots, but there are people who try to elevate the material to something worthwhile, and we as audiences should encourage that instead of accepting whatever crap the studio trots out because it's supposed to be stupid.

I think it's possible to make a film that isn't completely stupid out of the Transformers idea. I'm not hoping for an art film or whatever, just something that can entertain me the way Terminator 2 (two robots from the future fighting each other) or Iron Man (a rich guy builds a robot suit to fight terrorists) or Robocop (a robot cop) did.

  • Gabe@ThePlaylist

If that's the case, you've said it yourself. You are seeing movies because they represent commercialism. More power to you, but if that is the case, you really don't care about movies one way or another. They are product to you. Why would you discuss or defend this to or with anyone else? Nobody's getting in the way of you enjoying crap. It's still unforgivable crap, however.

  • Pigmeat

I actualy watched this movie for a piece of the ol' lowest common denominator, escapism and big robots hitting eachother was all I wanted and what did I get? Shia la Beef in angst over not having a car and wanting to date the prom queen, looking fer his spectacles, some broad wanting to be taken seriously in the macho-centric world of motor mechanics and a bunch of extreme close-ups of metal scraping together and rolling about… Frankly I think Shakespeare would have been blessed pop corn munching release compared to this… I'd take some thee's and thou's over this boring crap any day of the week!

This isn't lowest common denominator, its slipped off the bottom somewhere… Its not got a de-nomination! It un-de-nominat-able!

Next time, scrap the plot, take away ol' Bays zoom lens and just get the robots to hit eachother for an hour or so… Maybe throw in some exposition style dialogue like “I'm hitting you because yore an evil decepticon”… Classy stuff like that…

  • Pigmeat

How anyone can call this movie 'escapism' is beyond me… What the hell are you escaping from that you would try to place yoreself into the torturously dull world of Transformers that Bay has created… If i spend my days being beaten with a rubber hose by a pcp crazed thug, i'd sit and watch this movie thinking, hmmm I wonder what the pcp crazed thug is doing at the moment, I hope hes got the hose warmed up… I seriously thought about leaving the cinema and going home to do the washing up…

Lets not put this movie on a pedestal is what i'm saying, lets not put it up in the lofty heights with films like Batman and Robin… That actualy entertained me with such classic lines of dialogue as when Ice man said “Ice to meet you”… Lets not try to raise it to the level of mindless entertainment… Of pure drivel… It takes so little to reach this low plateau and Transformers just doesn't have what takes… Lets all watch Gi Joe instead!

  • DirkD13

Batman and Robin has contempt for the audience. The Dark Knight does not.

  • AligatorBoy

“I mean, c'mon. How seriously did you really want a studio to take a movie about giant alien robots, based off of a toyline/80's cartoon series?”

The studio did take it seriously. They poured $200 million into the budget, attached the most hyped Director / Stars and virtually all of the summer blockbuster marketing of 2009… all for a film designed specifically for the adolescent male market. The problem is they also pitched this juvenile film at adult demographics, manufacturing a demand that shouldn't naturally exist.

Testicle jokes, racist robots, masturbation humor, cheesecake models devoid of nudity, light cursing, ineptly staged violence and sitcom-bad dialogue is all too old for kiddies/families and too young for people like us. Even for trivial entertainment it earns the title of Most Inferior Alternative.

There's a difference between carefree whimsy and being functionally retarded.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that people that apologize or defend shoes-on-hands stupid films like Transformers 2 are really the ones unjustifiably attributing maturity to the movie. You're too old to be entertaining yourself this poorly and if you want escapism done better go watch Black Dynamite (or another unguilty pleasure).

Transformers 2 doesn't get to sit at the big kids table of film discussion.

  • http://twitter.com/rondertaker ron bauerle

“Batman has always been depicted as dark and serious.” have you heard of adam west? no one remembered that batman was supposed to be dark and serious until frank miller brought him back and them tim burton made his version. and even that modicum of seriousness lasted about 3/4ths of a movie before it went off the rails again until batman begins. and your argument against vern's argument makes absolute no sense – i'm the last person to equate quality with box office returns but TDK made 100 million more thank TF2 and it was ALSO a far better movie, so obviously being smart and well made doesnt also mean your movie will make no money. its possible for a movie to do BOTH and THAT is Vern's point, and that is what you don't seem to understand.

  • Vern

Peabody and others said it better than I did. But my simple point is that “But there's nothing wrong with enjoying eye-candy. I have other movies I can go to for intellectual stimulation. I don't want every film I see to challenge my brain, for God's sake,” could be used as a defense for BATMAN AND ROBIN, GODZILLA, WILD WILD WEST and every other piss-poor summer movie that could've been better. In fact, that argument WAS used for those movies and will continue to be, unfortunately. I'm just saying if you like it (sounds like you don't that much) there must be something better you can say about it than “what did you expect, something that wasn't utter garbage? FUCK YOU ELITIST SNOBS.”

(and jesus I'm getting old if the American directors of the late '90s and early 2000s are now the go-to directors for who a hypothetical movie snob is supposed to like.)

  • pasomu

Is he out of his mind??? DONT WASTE UR MONEY, if u want to see the movie it would be better to wait until in runs on cable!!! It is awful when a movie takes out characters or replace them, maybe they will also cut out Shea…

  • Christof

    Monstercow,

Either you're a troll – or you're just real, real dumb.

You JUST SAID in your most recent post that TF2 “disappointed” you.

The word “disappoint” means literally this:

    verb [trans.]
“fail to fulfill the hopes of expectations of (someone).”

So, in other words, Monstercow, TF2 failed to fulfill your expectations (whatever they may have been) just as it failed Vern's expectations (in general) for big-budget, summer-release movies.

Follow up question: Does admitting that you were disappointed make you trendy or pretentious?

  • red

Id also point out the Batman analogy is totally valid. The point wasn't to compare any two commercial movies, it was to compare a crappy movie to a good one about the same thing…and Batman has had bad and good versions. Also “two times, two different directors”? Were you alive when Batman and Robin came out? It sucked back then too.

Your “Transformers is a toy line” also applies to “Batman is a comic book and campy TV show”. have comics that take the storylines way more seriously, its just Batmans are done better and are more popular.

Enjoy the role of encouraging people to fail upward.
