We heard last month that Mel Gibson was eying the villain role in The Expendables 3. The intersection between Expendables fans and those who somehow remain in Gibson’s corner will find Sylvester Stallone‘s latest tweet interesting: “Mad Max vs Barney Ross……” Although the Lethal Weapon series is more in line with the Expendables approach to life, Stallone’s wording is slightly catchier than “Martin Riggs vs Barney Ross……” Notice that Stallone did not tweet “Mel Gibson has officially signed on to play the villain in The Expendables 3……,” so this is far from official. Stallone knows more than we do, but we will wait for more information on the nature and size of Gibson’s role, if he’s in the sequel at all.
Starring Stallone, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Jackie Chan, Nicolas Cage, Wesley Snipes, and Milla Jovovich, The Expendables 3 opens August 15, 2014.
