Filmmaker Oliver Stone is filling three integral roles in his upcoming Edward Snowden movie about the NSA contractor who leaked classified documents, and those who’ve seen the documentary CITIZENFOUR will find the names very familiar.  Per The Wrap, Melissa Leo is in talks to play Laura Poitras, Zachary Quinto is in line to fill the role of Glenn Greenwald, and Tom Wilkinson is in negotiations for Ewen MacAskill.

Poitras is, of course, the director behind CITIZENFOUR and one of the key people involved in disseminating the information that Snowden leaked.  Greenwald and MacAskill are the other two who were brought into Snowden's circle in Hong Kong, with the latter serving as the defense and intelligence correspondent for The Guardian.  The three play an integral role in the events surrounding Snowden's leak, as they were with him during the days in which they began releasing the leaked information, and were witnesses to the whirlwind that started when the government zeroed in on Snowden as the culprit.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to play Snowden in Stone’s film, with Shailene Woodley also already onboard as Snowden’s longtime girlfriend Lindsay Mills, who had no knowledge of his involvement and thought he was at home when in fact he was in Hong Kong.  While Stone’s cinematic edge has softened as of late, I’m definitely curious to see what kind of movie he puts together here.  He’s certainly off to a good start with this cast.

Production on the untitled pic will begin imminently.
