TWILIGHT Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to Tackle HIGHLANDER Remake Script

Well that was unexpected. Melissa Rosenberg, who has written the screenplays for all of the Twilight films, is in negotiations to come on board the Highlander reboot to work on that script. Justin Lin (Fast Five) is on board to direct the film, which will be a remake of the 1986 Christopher Lambert cheese-fest classic (and winner of the Academy Award for Best Movie Ever, according to Ricky Bobby). Neal Mortiz is producing the film, and when he recently sat down with Steve he said that the film will “stay true to the core of what we believe Highlander is,” but they also want to make it “for people who are new to the franchise.”

The most recent draft of the script was written by The Wibberley’s (National Treasure). Heat Vision’s report doesn’t state if Rosenberg is coming in to do “touch-ups” or to completely re-tool the script. There’s no release date set for the film yet, but it’s presumed to be Lin’s next film.

Huge Highlander fan and have wanted a reboot for years. Refuse to watch Twilight and threw up a little in my mouth when I saw a quick clip. I’m very confused whether to be happy or sad.

I’ve seen all the Twilight movies. The dialogue in the Twilight movies are forgettable.

You can’t remake a movie that has perfect music (Queen), Oscar worthy Cinemotgraphy, a perfect mentor: Sean Connery. Even if they bring on the current best the odds that they are going to make a better movie are slim.

Just do a sequel and pretend that not all the immortals died in the first movie. Also, Highlander: The Source was the biggest pile of steaming horse manure ever. The other sequels before that had likable factors.

Apparently “There Can Be Only One” applies to how many good Highlander movies there will actually be. Highlander II was a crime against humanity. Amnesty International started a letter writing campaign to free people from the theater.

Heck, if they stay true to the essence, this could turn out to be a worthy remake. Used to love Highlander… alas, today it is so terribly dated it’s barely watchable … except for the Kurgan, of course – he still rocks. Rosenberg is the most to blame for the crappiness of Twilight with her crappy writing skills.

Has she been a tryhard man disguised as a woman all this time?

Or are they thinking of making a female version of Highlander?

Honestly, I’m torn here. I mean, Right now, the Director of 20 Weeks Later is attached to direct… but Twilight is horrible in every conceivable way, including (ESPECALLY) the writing. However, I’m not sure that Neil Gaiman could have made a compelling script from those terrible books. Also, Rosenberg has written for Dexter for about three years as well, so who knows?
