The first Ricki and the Flash image has landed online, revealing Meryl Streep taking on a very different kind of role. The actress plays a woman who abandoned her family when she was young in order to seek fame in California. Years later, she returns home and attempts to resume her role as a mother. The picture boasts a pretty great lineup of talent, with Jonathan Demme directing from a script by Oscar-winning Juno scribe Diablo Cody.  Streep’s real-life daughter Mamie Gummer has a role in the film as well, with Kevin Kline playing her ex-husband and Rick Springfield (yes, that Rick Springfield) set as a bandmate who is in love with Ricki. Sebastian Stan and Audra McDonald also star.

This debut image isn’t incredibly revealing, but it’s certainly tantalizing. Streep really can do anything, can’t she?  I imagine a trailer will be arriving shortly. For now, check out the Ricki and the Flash image below. The film is slated for release on August 7th.
