Two silly videos landed online today. The first was Michael Bay’s Victoria Secret commercial. It being Bay, there were helicopters, explosions, and rock music. I don’t get the point. Lingerie sells itself. I love Victoria Secret commercials as much as the next warm-blooded or cold-blooded heterosexual man, but did the folks at Victoria Secret see the budget for this commercial and then realize, “Oh crap. We made a huge mistake.” Then again, maybe the Victoria Secret people didn’t pay for this commercial because I’m not entirely convinced this isn’t just a compilation of deleted scenes from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
The other isn’t so much a video but using a YouTube embed to put out Leona Lewis’ “I See You” which is the closing credits theme for James Cameron’s Avatar. It’s a transparent attempt to mimic the success of Celine Dion singing “My Heart Will Go On,” except that song, as poorly as Dion sang it, fit the ending of a love story set aboard a doomed luxury liner. I’m not sure how well an alternate version of it fits the end of a giant action-adventure movie with 10-foot-tall blue creatures fighting mech-warriors on a bio-luminescent planet. Also, before you listen to it, break out your “Pop Love Ballad” Bingo Card and see how many words it hits. It’s almost like it came out of an online generator rather than the brain of a human being. Then again, Cameron does love his technology so you never know.

The song is called “I See You” for a reason. The Na’vi can communicate with each other through their eyes and some of the lyrics reflect the relationship between Sam and Zoe. It’s the perfect song to close the movie and it gives people who don’t know Leona Lewis to hear her for the first time.
Have you seen the movie? How do you know that. I wish everyone would leave this film alone until it came out. I agree there’s not reason to go after the CLOSING CREDITS SONG for a move none of us have seen yet. That is unnecessary. But to call t the perfect song to close the movie ignores the fact that you haven’t seen the movie.
