Michael Fassbender Must Choose Between X-MEN: FIRST CLASS and the SPIDER-MAN Reboot

It seems that Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) is destined for the Marvel universe, though which project should he sign on for? Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class or the Marc Webb Spider-Man reboot? Decisions, decisions.
Vaughn wants Fassbender to play a young Magneto opposite James McAvoy’s Professor Charles Xavier in Fox’s X-Men prequel, while Sony thinks the actor would be perfect for an unnamed villainous role in the Webb take on Spider-Man. More after the jump:
Ideally Fassbender could do both, but Showbiz 411 says the production schedules will not permit such harmony, especially since the projects are in development at two different studios. First Class is targeting a June 3, 2011 release date, though so far they only have a director (Vaughn), a writer (Kick-Ass‘ Jane Goldman), and a single cast member (McAvoy). Official news will likely replace the rumors soon enough if the prequel is truly on track for release next summer.
Spider-Man has even less solidified, though more time to do so with a July 3, 2012 released date — in 3D, of course. James Vanderbilt has finished a “gritty, contemporary” script, and the latest rumor pegs Jamie Bell (Tintin: The Secret Adventures of the Unicorn) as Peter Parker.
There’s no word on what role Fassbender is up for, and I’m not familiar enough with Spidey villains to offer up possibilities. I welcome suggestions in the comments.
Fassbender will next be seen in Jonah Hex, the June 18th sci-fi western which stars Josh Brolin and Megan Fox. August sees the actor as a Roman soldier in Neil Marshall’s Centurion. And would you look at that: Fassbender teamed up with potential Spider-Man co-star Jamie Bell for literary adaptation Jane Eyre, which stars Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland).

Fix you spelling..its Jamie Bell, not Vanderbilt.
I could see Fassbender pulling off Electro VERY well. Webb has said enough, not much, to allude to the fact that the villain would be one that we haven't seen on screen yet and would be one that does quite a bit of damage. Visually speaking Electro, in his Ultimate get-up, could look really cool and provide Pete with enough danger to make a great threat to a younger web slinger just learning his powers. The more I read about this “re-boot” the more excited I get. I really hope that Norman Osborn starts as a supporting character and transforms into the Green Goblin throughout the course of these films. Just stay away from Norman's costume design in Spidey 1 and the GG look of USM, both of which are horrendous.
Couldn't care less about either project. Sick of prequels
hear, hear try as i might have lost practically all enthusiasm for a spidey reboot
i say Magneto because Spiderman Reboot is stupid
I suspect the Spiderman villain will either be Kraven or Norman Osbourne.
I think he'd make an excellent Kletus Cassidy (Carnage) and that would definitely take things in a gritty direction…….
I will never understand why people think Carnage or Venom ever make good characters in terms of film. Visually stunning – yes, little to no substance character wise
Electro, in his more reccent green and yellow leather outfit. (electro has a fan website and fan girls actually make many of his new better costumes. Electro is like a low class version of The Monach in Venture Bros.
Yeah, people needto do their reserch, most his foes from Mysterio to Tombstone are no pushovers. And have all 'owned' better stories than Carnage, even scorpion has been making a better venom.
Superzerosix, i was thinking the same thing. Its the time for ELECTRO!
We are still talking about hollywood movies right? Visually stunning is typically the first order of business. That said a serial killer with super powers if done properly could be pretty interesting. My initial comment was directed more toward's the actor's appearance, the guy looks like Kletus Cassidy.
and p.s. you aint NEVER going to see Tombstone in a movie and I'd bet ten bucks against Mysterio too.
“Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) is destined for the Marvel universe” — yeah, but the bastard version of that universe.. I say, screw these projects and sign up in the *real* Marvel site
Go for First Class, says I. The idea of seeing him act alongside James McAvoy is an exciting one. Two very significant rising stars. And Magneto is such a terrific character. Plus, the prospect of a(nother) Matthew Vaughn superhero movie is more interesting than the prospect of a Marc Webb attempt. I'd prefer to see Webb do something else entirely, to be honest…

More potential out of X-Men, I think. He can certainly get further playing an iconic villain that most certainly won't be killed off and be featured in sequels, whereas there are no guarantees on either in the Spiderman reboot.
FUCK WEBB!! He destroyed Spider Man 2, by letting everyone see who he is. I can see Jim Carry's old ass as Carnage (see Number 23 for reference) This go shoud play Scorpion or The Chameleon. But yeah, First Class!!
Yea i also thought by looking at him that he would make an awesome Electro can't wait to see but exactly how are they gonna pull off a spider-man movie in only a yr a good movie takes at least 3 yrs.
He doesn't really seem like the magneto type to me but i don't know…
