Composer Michael Giacchino is once again set to work with writers/directors Lana and Andy Wachowski. The excellent, Oscar-winning composer behind such fare as Lost, Star Trek, The Incredibles and Up previously penned the music for the Wachowski siblings’ underrated Speed Racer, and now Giacchino is poised to compose the music for the Wachowskis’ upcoming sci-fi film Jupiter Ascending, which stars Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne, and Sean Bean. The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer famously composed all the music for last year’s Cloud Atlas before production began, so it’ll be interesting to see if Giacchino has already crafted some music for Jupiter Ascending or if he’ll be putting everything together after filming wraps. Hit the jump for more, including a sample of some of Giacchino’s work.
News of Giacchino’s involvement with Jupiter Ascending comes courtesy of The Film Music Reporter (via The Playlist). As Giacchino is one of my favorite composers working today, I’m very much looking forward to what he cooks up for Jupiter Ascending. Just yesterday Giacchino started the orchestra sessions for J.J. Abrams’ sequel Star Trek Into Darkness, so we can look forward to a new Giacchino score come May. Filming on Jupiter Ascending is poised to begin this spring.

I have been a huge fan of Michael Giacchino ever since he scored the The Lost World: Jurassic Park Playstation game and the Medal of Honor games (which is still one of my favorite video game themes). I was thrilled when he transitioned to film scores. It is so awesome to to see more people bringing attention to his Speed Racer score. Such an unappreciated film in every way.
Didn’t care for Speed Racer over all, but it had some inspired moments, most notably in the finale. The music was phenomenal in those scenes.
