Exclusive Interview: Director Michel Gondry on His New Film THORN IN THE HEART and GREEN HORNET

by     Posted 4 years, 109 days ago

Earlier today I got to sit down with director Michel Gondry (Be Kind Rewind, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Dave Chappelle’s Block Party) for an extended interview.  As a big fan of his work and the crazy stuff he does on his website, I’ll admit to being very excited when I was offered the chance to speak with him.  The reason he was in town was to promote his newest film, Thorn In The Heart.  The movie is a very personal look at his aunt Suzette Gondry and her relationship with her son, Jean-Yves.  The movie premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and it’ll open in Los Angeles May 14.

Of course with Gondry also directing Sony’s big budget Green Hornet movie starring Seth Rogen, we also talked about how that project is going.  We covered working with editor Sally Menke, how does he blend his artistic nature with the demands a mainstream blockbuster, what is “Kato-vision” and how does work in the film, and post-production 3D conversion.  Hit the jump for the interview.  It’s been time indexed.

Before getting to the interview, I suggest first watching the trailer for Thorn in the Heart.  I could explain the movie to you…but this trailer will do a much better job.

You guys really need to do something about the audio on these videos. It's so horribly tinny and compressed you have to struggle to make out what anyone is saying.

You guys really need to get transcriptions of these video interviews up. Gagging to hear it, but I don't have speakers/headphones available. Text, text, text!
