About a year ago, director Michel Gondry offered his fans something very cool on his website: hand drawn portraits.  For only $20 (later raised to $99.95 with a DVD) fans could send in a photo and then Gondry would sketch the person and you'd have an original piece of art.  Due to demand, Gondry eventually stopped offering the deal.  But while it was on, he sketched at least 1000 people.  How do I know this number?  Because earlier today I interviewed Gondry for his documentary Thorn in the Heart and after the interview was over he let me check out the book based on the sketches.  He told me the book (called "1000 Portraits") was currently being printed and said he didn't mind if I took some pictures/video.  So if you'd like to check out the soon-to-be-released book, hit the jump.

I checked around and so far no one is selling the book and no info on its release is online.  But I'd imagine Gondry's website will start selling it soon.

And if you'd like to see some of the original sketches in better resolution, here's the flickr page Gondry put up.
