I just got back from interviewing Director Mike Newell about his new movie “Love in the Time of Cholera” and it’s posted below. And while I hated missing football on this lovely, grey Sunday afternoon, getting to interview the director of the upcoming “Prince of Persia” made it tolerable.

And while I’d love to drop some big casting news or announcements about “Prince of Persia,” the only stuff we really talked about was why he took the project. It's kind of hard to get deep into something when you only have 4 minutes to talk.

But something that I did find interesting is that his deal to direct is not done. You see, after the interview was over I kept asking questions, and what I found out was that while he’s definitely been offered the project, nothing is signed yet. So this is one of those projects that because of the strike, it’s kind of frozen in time. He did tell me there is a lot of work to do on the project – from the script to pre-production – so I’d imagine this is still a far off movie from being seen in theaters.

So after he told me this info I did a follow up on the film adaptation of Harry Potter 7. Since they are currently shooting movie 6, and they haven’t yet announced who would direct the last installment, I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask the man who directed one of the better films in the franchise (“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”) if he had been offered the gig. He said he hasn’t yet been contacted about the movie.

Anyway, here’s the video interview with Mike, and “Love in the Time of Cholera” opens this Friday. Look for some movie clips later today.

Mike Newell

  • I ask if he ever thought he’d be in this position after attending Cambridge University in England.
  • After doing Harry Potter how did he come to this project and why did he pick it.
  • I ask what attracted him to Prince of Persia
