We have two quick pieces of Blu-ray/DVD news for you this afternoon.  First up, Blu-ray.com reports that the Blu-ray director's cut of Guillermo del Toro's Mimic will hit stores on September 27th.  For those who never saw del Toro's first English-language feature, the story is about genetically mutated giant cockroaches that can mimic human form.  Mimic is del Toro's weakest film, and he repeatedly clashes with the Weinsteins over the script and at least one scene was directed by producer Ole Bornedal.  The new edition will feature 7 additional minutes of restored footage and bring the movie closer to del Toro's original vision.  The Blu-ray will also included a variety of special features that were missing from the original barebones 1998 DVD release.

Hit the jump for a list of special features for Mimic plus the first details for Marvel's upcoming Blu-ray of Thor.

Here are the special features that will be included on the Mimic: The Director's Cut Blu-ray + Digital Copy combo pack (MSRP $19.99):

  • Introduction and Audio Commentary from Director Guillermo del Toro
  • Reclaiming Mimic- Featurette with Del Toro discussing his vision for the film and how he completed the new version.
  • A Leap in Evolution: The Creatures of Mimic- Featurette looking at the creatures in Mimic
  • Back into the Tunnels: Shooting Mimic- Behind the scenes featurette.
  • Deleted/Alternate Scenes
  • Outtakes
  • Gag Reel
  • Storyboard Animatics
  • Theatrical Trailer

Moving on, Marvel has announced the Blu-ray for Kenneth Branagh's ThorIGN reports that the Blu-ray, DVD, and 3D Blu-ray Limited Edition will go on sale September 13th.  Both the Blu-ray/DVD and 3D Blu-ray will "come fully loaded with over 80 minutes of immersive bonus materials including an exclusive special feature that goes deeper into the Marvel Universe, a sneak peek into Marvel's The Avengers, an unprecedented look inside the world of director Kenneth Branagh and much more."  The Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray will be combo packs that also include the DVD and a digital copy.

More importantly, it will be interesting to see just how much of a sneak peek we'll get of The Avengers.  I'm also curious if Marvel will create a second Avengers sneak peek for the Captain America Blu-ray or if they'll just use the same one.
