The Catherine Hardwicke-directed dramedy Miss You Already has gone through quite a few casting changes over the last couple of years, but now that the first trailer has been released, we can say with confidence that it will be Drew Barrymore and Toni Collette in the starring roles. Barrymore plays Jess, who is the lifelong best friend of Collette’s Milly. Their friendship only grows stronger when Jess is faced with difficulties in her attempts to get pregnant, while Milly soon finds herself diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Collette was originally in line to play Jess, with Jennifer Aniston playing the role of Milly. Rachel Weisz was then expected to play Jess opposite Collette’s Milly, only to be replaced most recently by Barrymore. Though it’s taken a long and winding road to get here, this current pairing seems to work quite well if the first trailer is any indication. Take a look at it below (via MailOnline), followed by some new images from the film:

Scripted by Morwenna BanksMiss You Already also stars Paddy Considine as Jess’s partner Jago, and Dominic Cooper as Milly’s supportive husband Kit, and the father of their two children. As you could see in the above trailer, and as Hardwicke mentioned to MailOnline, the film “explores the ups and down of an intense friendship. With our fearless actors, we’re taking this very personal story on a wild ride.”

Miss You Already is scheduled to open this year in the U.S., with a more definitive U.K. release date of September 25, 2015.
