Once in awhile a cool product comes along that gets you all excited and pumped up to be a gamer. Earlier this week, I ran a story on the Atari Flashback 2, and while that is cool, this might be even better. A company called Messiah has created something amazing for all you old school 8-Bit Nintendo freaks. They have come up with a sexed-up version of the classic NES 8-Bit system. But that is not all, they have also added wireless support for controllers and get this…the ability to play both the entire U.S. and Japanese (Famicom) 8-Bit library.

So here are a few things worth knowing. They are premiering the system this weekend at the Classic Gaming Expo in San Francisco (click here for more info on that), otherwise you can pre-order the system here and expect to get it in mid September. Also the system acts just like an old NES system, so if you are playing Zelda or an old game that let you save, you can still save your game. Remember the game is saved right onto the cartridge, not to the system.

Below is the actual press release from the company. I really do not know how long they will be able to keep making this product, so if you have *any* interest, get it now. Also they have some other cool products that are coming soon here, like some wireless controllers for the Atari 2600, Sega Genesis and a NES Advantage.

Messiah Debuts Generation NEX Console

Los Angeles, CA, USA –Messiah Entertainment Inc. unveils a new 8-bit console for classic gaming. At only 1.5 inches tall, Generation NEX is Messiah’s slim and sexy micro version of the beloved Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Generation NEX revives the cherished classics of the past, redefining retro gaming as we know it.

Messiah brings next generation technology to classic gaming. Generation NEX is the first console featuring built-in 2.4 GHz wireless controller support. In addition to wireless gaming, the system has two controller ports for use with all your favorite original NES accessories including the four-player adapter and Zapper light gun.

For the first time ever experience your favorite classic games with rumble, delivering an all new experience. One six-button wired controller with slow motion and turbo functions comes as part of the Generation NEX package. Also included are stereo AV cables and a multi voltage AC adapter.

Not divided by region, Generation NEX incorporates two cartridge slots allowing NES and FamiCom™ game play. Both slots feature a direct connection between the cartridge and the system. No more power-light blinking and blowing on game cartridges.

Brad Strahle, Messiah’s President, considers the Generation NEX to be one of the most important retro products available. “With the release of Generation NEX, we want the core gamer to know that we have not forgotten our roots. Classic gaming is where it all began and with Generation NEX the classics will live on.” Strahle continued, “All gamers will love playing their favorite retro games on the Generation NEX and enjoy them with a new passion.”
