Though it will air before Transformers: Dark of the Moon this Wednesday, we have an early look at the trailer for Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. It’s a bit difficult to glean plot details from the trailer as it’s in French, but an English cut should be arriving shortly. Language barrier aside, it’s reassuring to see that the fourth installment in the Mission: Impossible series has shaken off the rust of a five year hiatus. The action and effects look like what you would expect from the M:I series and Tom Cruise still appears to be up to the physical demands. Though he may not be around much longer, as many suspect he will pass the M:I torch to co-star Jeremy Renner. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.

In director Brad Bird’s (The Incredibles) first foray into live action fare, with a story by J.J. Abrams and Tom Cruise, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol reunites Ethan Hunt (Cruise) with teammate Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) and IMF technician, Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg). Other member’s of Hunt’s team include Josh Holloway (LOST), Paula Patton (Precious) and the aforementioned Jeremy Renner. Anil Kapoor (Slumdog Millionaire), Michael Nyqvist (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – 2009) and Lea Seydoux (Inglourious Basterds) co-star as the film’s antagonists. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol opens in conventional and IMAX theaters on December 16, 2011.

Fuck yea ill watch that. Loved the first one. kind of liked 2 and hated 3. This looks a lot better then 3

  MI-3 was the only decent one. Part 1 was boring, 2 was mostly silly but 3 had good mix of story action and a truly great villain. This one however also looks good so I’ll check it out. Even though it does star the Scientology Goblin.

    In my opinion, 3 was easily the worst. The action was lame and the story was at best TV Pilot quality. I am not even sure how you can claim the villain in 3 was “great” when there was no depth to the character whatsoever. Hoffman barely even got screen time much less any lines.
    
    The first two were great with the second edging it out because of the excellence of the action film making which is all too rare in Hollywood. No coincidence that it was the great John Woo that directed it.

    I have to Agree, #3 was the Best.
    I enjoyed 1. 2 was just so so. But the Third one was fantastic. It had the best action and story. This one looks pretty awesome too. Can’t Wait!

    You people are truly ill. The first mission impossible was THE BEST HANDS DOWN. Think about how many times the scene where they broke into the cia was parodied. The suspense in that scene and in so many others were genuine. I hate to say the attempt at suspense in the sequels felt forced. I doubt they can top the first movie but they can definitely top the 2nd and 3rd.

    The third was just godawful. Horrendous to say the least, tennis balls on the roof, it was a made for tv movie. First two rocked, loved MI2 for its visual flair and style, come on haters those bikes at the end kicked ass, freakin John Woo

looks good sounds sexy in french and if we could go back and remake that john woo abortion i.e number 2 it would be quite a good franchise.

Ving Rhames isn’t in it because he expected a huge pay raise since actors usually get more money with each sequel. It was reported that he wanted almost $8 million.

I can’t wait for this movie. Mostly because it’s Brad Bird’s Live Action Debut, but even in French this trailer has me excited. I just wish they’d just promote Brad Bird a little more in the trailers, I was really surprised that the French trailer had no mention of Ratatouille considering how big a hit it was over there.

Saw the trailer last night in IMAX. The basic story is as follows. Some one attacks and blows up the Kremlin. The president has called back all members of MI5 and is going to disband them and brand them traitors. Thats what Wilkenson is telling them in the car. They he tells Cruise to escape and figure out what happened. But if they get caught he will deny knowing anything and they will be branded traitors trying to incite nuclear war. Thats all the story in the trailer. If you see this in IMAX you’ll be treated to 30 seconds of the footage shot with the IMAX cameras in Dubi

Kurt took the words out of my mouth. I like in Quebec (Canada) and I understand French fluently. Basically as said the story is that because of an operation the identities of agents have been leaked and are at risk of being labelled terrorists. The operation is obviously an attempt at discovering the truth and catching the real bad guys.

I am so excited for this film. I know it is going to be amazing.
